Cyclones
Well said. Regarding Eli Elezra, I'm not sure if I call him a professional poker player though. He made his money with his businesses (and still does) and plays poker for entertainment (albeit potentially expensive or profitable entertainment). Yes, he strives to be the best he can, as I assume we all do, but it is not by any means his primary source of income (if it is even a source of income) Does Lederer fall into the "ran hot for a short period" bucket? He won twice on the first year of the WPT but what has he done since?
Big Country
I didn't take the longest look at this (I'm actually headed out to play tonight), but it looks like if players take all the add-on's they could wind up with between 40 and 50 K in chips. . .be careful or you'll have a 20 hour tourney. With that many chips in play you'll need to have 10 minute levels at the most, and shouldn't even put out green chips to start. You'll need to start with the blinds at least 100/200. . . Also, if you're really interested in making some money for your charity, there's nothing wrong with making it a straight 50/50. Many charity events pay that little to the winners. . .Half the point is just having fun playing and raising awareness for your cause. I'll check it out more when I get home, hopefully up a few bills. . . I was planning on starting at 100/200 and going up relatively quick early on to encourage the add-ons. I have heard in general that average sized tournies generally wind down as the big blind size reaches the level of the starting stack. Also, with this group, I am not sure I want to institute antes, as they have never played with them in any of our previous tournies, so I only think it will cause havoc rather than speed up the game. Initial idea - (first 8 levels at 15 minutes each) 100/200 200/400 300/600 500/1000 break (5 minutes) 800/1600 1000/2000 (race off 100s) 1500/3000 2000/4000 break (5 minutes) 3000/6000 (20 min levels last 6 rounds) 5000/10000 8000/16000 break (5 mins) 10000/20000 (race off 1000s) 15000/30000 25000/50000 Assuming the 25000/50000 level (if it gets that far) goes for 20-40 minutes, we are in the 4 to 4 and a half hour area, which should have us ending about 11:30. I have a feeling it will end before that, as at that level, there are only at most 20 BB total on the board (probably get a chop before it is at this point)
Big Country
Does Lederer fall into the "ran hot for a short period" bucket? He won twice on the first year of the WPT but what has he done since? SheikYerbuti
Does Lederer fall into the "ran hot for a short period" bucket? He won twice on the first year of the WPT but what has he done since? Howard is the opposite of Chad Brown. He's a good player who's having poor results for the last few years. It happens. Luckily for him Full Tilt Poker is making him millions and millions of dollars to take the edge off running bad. Now, as R. Duke said in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas "Now I have GOT to GO!". . . Big Country
If Allen Cunningham had never won a hand of poker, he never would have needed to work a day in his life. He comes from an uber-rich family. He's still one of the 5 greatest living poker players. You should ask Eli if he considers himself an elite poker player. . .I'd bet you any amount he would say yes. Donk! OK, off to hit the felt. . . Elite and professinal are very different though. He is definitely an elite player. I guess it is semantice on definition of professional poker player. IMO, a professional makes his/her primary living from poker. I believe Eli certainly plays at a professional/elite level of play, but because it is not his primary source of income he is not a professional player. Regarding Allen, he still makes his living from poker (even if he doesnt have to.. lucky dog, why cant us poor folks get the poker gene)
Bring Back Pat!!!
I have never seen anything in Chad Brown's game that impressed me. I don't respect him as a poker player. Bad players run good for years at a time. It happens often. In 15 years around poker rooms I've seen hundreds of guys run hot, build up a huge roll, walk around like they invented the game, and then leave town broke. Gus Hansen was the hottest player on the planet for about 2 years straight by playing like a straight up maniac. Now he's stuck millions of dollars in the big game. Watch Eli Elezra on High Stakes Poker. He makes drastic poker mistakes all the time in that game. He won a bracelet this year and was chip leader of the 50K HORSE event for 3 straight days. I won't judge a player's skill over 1 or 2 years. It's just not a big enough sample size. There just aren't many guys like Chip Reese and Allen Cunningham. They are masters of the game. Chad Brown is hot, I grant you. But he's not in the elite league of poker players. I never calaimed he was in the poker elite. Those are pretty high standards, however. The elite of poker players consists of, what, 10-15 guys? Reese, AC, the Phils, Negraneu, Chan, Greenstein, Doyle,Jesus, Harrington...Is he among those? No. Is he a good professional player. Yeah. skylive5
Just a reminder of the rules, regarding event 54:Event 54 only paid 7 places, so only the top 7 finishers receive points. So, no points for Greenstien, Cunningham, etc. Well crud! No points for Cunningham or Ferguson (11th and 12th). *sigh* You are trying to keep me down aren't you BC? Big Country
Does Lederer fall into the "ran hot for a short period" bucket? He won twice on the first year of the WPT but what has he done since? On thing to note though, is that for the last few years Lederer and a group of poker players have been boycotting the WPT events because of the release they make all of the players sign. Their contention is that the way the release is worded, it would force many players to violate their endorsements with other companies, so they have been boycotting the WPT events in an attempt to get them to revise their release. Problem is, the release is worded in such a way that simply by playing in the WPT event, the player is giving the WPT the rights to use the players name and image for promotional and marketing purposes, such as featuring their picture on a WPT Video game, etc., when said player may have an exclusive deal for another video game. wildcat2334
on a side note- who caught last night's 2007 NL event on ESPN? great final table, where Ciaran O'Leary, a likeable Irishman now living in Seattle spikes a 9 for a set on the turn, when he was down to 2 outs vs. KK, and then makes a great run to take down the title. The deck was hitting him over the head with pocket pair after pocket pair, but he made some nice plays, and it was fun as hell to watch him. The guy was awesome, I love seeing dudes like that win a bracelet.
