AtomicCEO
I have two extra drives that I was going to mirror (RAID 1) to store digital family pictures and important financial info on. But, when I went to set up the Mirror, I learned that that's not a feature of XP Pro... only of Windows Server. Is there a free or very cheap software, or very cheap hardware solution to manage the mirrored disks for WinXP?

AtomicCEO
internets n00b: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=raid+1+with+xp See, here's the thing... I did that search (I'm heard of this "Google" thing), and if you look at your first link (or the first MANY links), you'll find that they come up as "Raid 1 with XP" because they contain this text... From your first link: "You cannot create mirrored volumes on computers that are running Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP 64-Bit Edition." ... or they talk about how you can use XP Pro to set up a mirror on a remote Windows Server. Thews40
How old are these drives and how long have they been on the shelf?

H8tank
It can be done, at least with a fresh install. http://www.smartcomputing.com/Editorial/ar...02.asp&guid http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Howto/mb/abit/kx7-333/raid1.htm If that is too hard copy boy, buy this $20: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16815124023 cr8tin, what can you possibly add to any thread? theeohiostate
I really never liked the onboard controllers for Raids. You can buy a nice Areca or 3ware pci-e or pci 64 (server mobo) that is 10 times more reliable and much faster. On my HDD benchmards with an intel ich9 controller vs an Areca pci-e card my transfer rate time went up 400% . I have 3 pc's , 2 with Raid cards and one on an intel controller, the intel controller has crashed my raid at least 5+ times in past year, the Areca cards have ran perfectly, with a great user friendly http software
