FordFairlane
Jacksonville is still a stingy defense, but they aren't making the kind of plays that rack up fantasy points the way they used to. Sort of like Troy Aikman Syndrome: Good in the NFL, not so hot in FFL. Even last season, LB Mike Peterson and CB Rashean Mathis were two of the best IDPers at their positions, but I'm not seeing them on the NFL hightlight shows like last season. Teams like Seattle and the New York Giants perform better even though they're not as stingy as the Jaguars, because while they may give up points, they're picking the ball off, forcing fumbles, and making the kinds of plays that score fantasy points. darin3
because they are a perpetually overrated fantasy defense. I'm not sure who's doing the over-rating... but if they're being rated as a quality start, then yes, that's over-rating. That's exactly right. They've been stingy - especially against the run - for a few years but never really make things happen on the defensive side that nets fantasy points. As for this week, sure, they posted 12 fantasy points against a pretty lousy Chief team. Think they'll do any better against the Texans? The horrible Dolphin D mustered up 6 fantasy points against the Texans last week. Falcons got 5 fantasy points the week previous. Colts got 7 the week before that. The Panthers (another disappointing fantasy D/ST) got a whopping TWO fantasy points in Week 2. And to start the season, the Chiefs got 7 fantasy points. So no fantasy D/ST so far this season - as good or as bad as they may be - has topped 7 fantasy points against them. The proof is in the pudding. Edit: They're the 20th-best D/ST in the format used for the Team Defense Rankings. Why, then, would they be ranked in the top-12 this week when they face an offense that yields hardly any fantasy points to opposing defenses? I have Peterson in one IDP league and he's ho-humming his way to the bench.
