BORG
I am in a points based league of 11 teams that keeps 5. Anyone want to offer an opinion on which 5 players from the list below I should go with. Starting Pitching seems to be the premium in this league as they generate the most points. Brian McCann Derrek Lee Jeff Kent Miguel Tejada Ryan Zimmerman Alex Rios Bobby Abreu Vladimir Guerrero Adrian Beltre Troy Tulowitzki Adrian Gonzalez Carlos Delgado Shawn Green Curt Schilling Jose Contreras Jose Valverde Scott Kazmir John Maine Huston Street Tom Gorzelanny Edinson Volquez Kason Gabbard Brad Hennessey Noah Lowry Chris Carpenter The players that are bold are who I was thinking of going with. BORG
It is Fantasy Points league. Standing are based on point accumulation. Roster can be changed daily and positions are Hitters -- C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF, OF , OF , UT, UT where utility can be any position player Pitchers can play 7 postions. Roster size is 20. I think Roster limits = 1,620 hitter games 162 starting pitching games allowed 140 relief pitching games allowed Points gained for Hitters Category Pts Run Scored ® 1 Base Hit (H) 1 Double (2B) 1 Triple (3B) 2 Home Run (HR) 3 Run Batted In (RBI) 1 Walks (BB) 1 Strike Out (K) -1 Hit by Pitch (HBP) 1 Stolen Base (SB) 2 Caught Stealing (CS) -1 Error (E) -1 Sacrifice (Sac) 1 Hit for the Cycle (HC) 5 Pitchers Category Pts Each 1/3 Inning Pitched (IP) 1 Win (W) 10 Loss (L) -5 Save (S) 10 Blown Save (BS) -5 Hit Allowed (H) -1 Walk (BB) -1 Strike Out (K) 1 Complete Game (CG) 5 Complete Game Shutout (CGSO) 10 Earned Run Allowed (ER) -1 Wild Pitch (WP) -1 Error (E) -1 Hit Batter (HB) -1 Balk (BK) -1 Complete Game No Hitter (CGNO) 20 Perfect Game (PG)
Sir Loins of Beef
Rios, Vlad, Toulos, Kaz and either Lee or McCann--your pitching doesn't lend itself to keeping so keep Toulos who should be a top5 shortstop and either Lee or McCann a top 5 catcher-- and then go six through tenth round best available whatever position--then fill out your roster till round 15-then go for upside on the final slots--

whomper
Does anyone think Carpenter comes back strong ? He may be worth a look if hes healthy
BORG
Thanks for the feedback. I think I will go with the recomendation of: Rios, Vlad, Toulos, Kaz and Lee. I don't want to keep a Catcher as the point differential between rank # 1 and 10 is minimal. Also I like the Cubs Soto as a sleeper pick this season. The rookie may get some playing time and I can grab him in the late rounds. Does anyone think that Lee is an injury risk and the steady production of Abrue is worth considering ? No on the Carpenter idea. I cannot wait until September for him. I am going to try for Lincecum as my first pick to pair with Kazmir and give me two solid young arms. I will fill in the rest of my starting pitching mid to late rounds. Too many risks with ptchers to load up early. Thanks again.... getting others opinions really helps. Sir Loins of Beef
Just remember your scoring system--losses are big detriments--granted Cain or Lincecum are going to be excellent but the S.F. Giant offense is pretty anemic--check out last year's pitchers to find out which ones pitched 200 innings -high K compared to walks(cdr) and play for a winning team--Gallardo should be pretty comparable with Lincecum but the Brewers should win him more games and his upside is not to shabby--also make sure you don't wait to long on picking up your third pitcher
