While something had to be done with the fron office, I'm a bit apprehensive the Liepold is the guy to hire the people who will take this team to the next level. I remember after he became the majority owner, the chatter on the Nashville Predators fan forums was along the lines of "good luck with this, he darn near buried the Preds, now he has a new team to screw up".

 

Not sure who we can get as a replacement GM, think we could hire Gainey away from Montreal?

Niklas Backstrom may require hip surgery.

 

Backstrom has been having groin problems and hip surgery may be needed to fix the problem. "I saw a doctor today, and the team doctors, and we have to decide now in a couple days if I need surgery," Backstrom said. "I need to get other opinions, and also from back home in Finland. It's tough for me because everything's in English, so I need someone to translate to me so I know exactly what's going on." Should Backstrom have the surgery, he should be good to go for the start of training camp in September.

Then again, if he comes back as strong as Gabby did the last few games of the year, I think we'll have to pass on that.
