DMD
State of the Cardinals Cardinals come off their best season ever but what happens if Boldin does get traded? What happens if he doesn't? And can Chris Wells win the ROY if Hightower could score 10 times last year?
irish
Breatson steps right in for Boldin if a deal got done and I think Wells gets the GL carries so I say nay on the Hightower 10 TDs. While Wells battles Moreno and Brown for RoTY honors. Edited July 17, 2009 by irish
DMD
I think Hightower goes back to being a blocking back and Wells gets everything that is there. The question is - how much is that really? Then again, who cares if Wells could rush in 12+ scores?

Been a long time since the Cards had a 300 carry runner. Then again, who cares if Wells could rush in 12+ scores? Didn't Edge have over 300 carries in both '06 and '07? And last year between Edge and Hightower they had almost 300 carries not adding any other RBs who may have had carries. Wells could very well be a Top 15 RB this year if he gets the majority of looks and GL touches. ETA- Edge had 337 rush attempts in '06 and 324 rush attempts in '07. ts
Didn't Edge have over 300 carries in both '06 and '07? ... Yes he did ... but FWIW, before that, you'd have to go back to (I think) 1981 or so when O. Anderson was the last (St. Louis) Cardinal runner to put up 300+ carries in a single season. irish
Yes he did ... but FWIW, before that, you'd have to go back to (I think) 1981 or so when O. Anderson was the last (St. Louis) Cardinal runner to put up 300+ carries in a single season. Okay but the facts are that it wasn't a long time since the Cards have had a 300 carry runner and in fact Edge did it 2 years in a row, and when the Cards had someone who could tote the rock, they gave it to him. Now not only do they have Hightower who carried it 143 times last year but they have a guy in Wells who they can feed the ball to as well. Between Edge and Hightower they had 276 carries last year and Arrington had another 31 carries, so that's over 300 carries as a team just from the RB position. Wells could very well post mid 200's in carries, if not more while approaching 300. I certainly care about that and the fact that he should post double digit scores. I have Wells as a Top 25 RB with upside for more than that. He's a low-end #2 now with plenty of room to grow. ETA: Emmitt had 264 carries with the Cards in 2004, Marcel Shipp had 228 and Emmitt had 90 in 2003, Michael Pittman had 241 while Thomas Jones had 112 in 2001, Adrian Murrell had 274 carries in 1998, Garrison Hearst had 284 carries in 1995, Ronald Moore had 263 in 1993, Ottis Anderson had 289 in 1984, 296 in 1983, 328 in 1981 and 301 in 1980. So if the right guy is there who can handle the load, he'll be given the rock and I expect that to be the case with Wells. Maybe not 300 carries but I can see, like I said before, 250+. DMD
I think the key with Wells is if he will hold up all season. If he can, then he will surprise in that offense.
