Digital Camera purchase question

I'll assume that you aren't missing a zero and just want to get a camera for him to shoot kid stuff (friends, events, etc.).

$100 won't get much nor will your selection be very large, but here's one that got a good review from CR and another source (below)

Samsung... The accessories, $20 extra don't bump the price much over your budget and they should be useful, though it doesn't say it includes batts.

Review...

That's a pretty nice little package there for the money.

You can't go wrong with a low end Canon. Like this one.

Not bad. It did have a slightly lower review from CR, FWIW.

CR's Take

This inexpensive Compact has very good image quality, produces images with Very good sharpness and visible noise. Performs very well in next-shot delay, which is very short. The camera had some first-shot delay. Has excellent dynamic range, which allows this camera to shoot photos in a wide variety of shooting situations. With no image stabilizer, the camera may produce more blurry shots due to hand shake.

HighsVery good image quality. Very short next-shot delay. Excellent dynamic range.

LowsDisplayed some first-shot delay. Batteries may fall out while changing memory card. No image stabilizer. No viewfinder. Flash range less than 10 feet. Camera design places flash too close to where you hold the camera, possibly obstructing the strobe.

$100 will get you plenty, actually. It was just a few years ago that 3 or 4mp cameras were hot stuff and took really great pics to boot. IMO most people way overpay for cameras just as some keep up w/the Joneseys BS.

Re a specific camera, I doubt he or you would notice a diff from one $100 camera to another. Go with a reputable company (eg Canon, Nikon etc) and you should be fine.
