King Tut
Even trying to play devil's advocate against myself I still cannot fathom why a league doesn't have the champioship game week 16 or sooner. Can anyone try to fill me in? It seems like all that work drafting, scouring the free agent wire, and doing everything to stay on top of your competition goes out the window in week 17. Seems like a crap shoot, and all that work is wasted, no matter how good you drafted.
staniels12
We have always used week 17 in our local - since 1992 - and have accepted that a strong bench is required to take home the title. I'd say about half of our finals have ended up being low-scoring slugfests, but they have still been pretty exciting. Every coupla years somebody puts up for vote that we move the final to week 16, but it always gets voted down by about 2 to 1.
King Tut
Gotta be several bitter people, no matter results right? How often does the #1 or #2 seed win?
King Tut
I went and looked at my starters this week, none from my bench. Not a one were ranked (or projected, for what that is worth) below 9th by position except WR2. Looks like I could have done well this week if my league played its championship game this week, albeit, probably rare for most. Gotta love than thin fragile line we all tread in in fantasy football. staniels12
Typical results I'd say. Probably a 50% rate of either the 1 or 2 seed winning. We've had a coupla really dominant teams go down for sure, but usually in the semis, not the final.
Henry Muto
I started fantasy football in 1990. I have run up to 5 leageus at the same time with all using week 17 as the championship game. I currently still run 3 leagues and all use week 17 as a championship game. For the 3 leagues I run we have only used week 16 once back in 1995 as the championship game. FFL - 20 years ran and 20 years week 17 IFL - 16 years ran 15 of the 16 years week 17 CFL - 13 years ran 13 years week 17 Now the last few years I have been saying to myself that we really need to change this week 17 it is going to burn someone (probably me) and then I am going to be just sick about it. So last year I was saying to myself just get through 1 more season of week 17 then we can change it...well last year I missed all 3 of my fantasy bowls in these leagues so I felt relieved about it not coming back to bite me. So this year I was thinking about changing it then I heard they were talking about adding another game or two for 17-18 regular season games. So I said to myself I will just wait it out another year or two and see if they change to 17 or 18 games and we would be fine as is.... Then the mother of all week 17's has hit us and now I have to ask myself why in the heck did we stay with week 17 it blows...it really freaking blows. The 1 year I make all 3 championship games I lose nearly my entire team in every league. Trust me I have been asking myself now all week "what the heck was I thinking for the last 20 years" I really like my idea of week 17+2 playoff weeks to crown the champ or just going to 16 week season. I have always wanted 14 regular season games that is why I was reluctant to make a move but now I see this can never happen again having only week 17 as the championship game. I don't know how to get past it in my 12 man league need 14 regular season games and teams want their bye weeks 1/2 seeds and teams want 6 in the playoffs so it is either don't play a team at all or add the 2 playoff weeks. Trust me right now I am wishing week 17 fantasy bowl never existed. I have read just about every newspaper online article out of the local newspapers I can get my hands on between NE, SD, NO, ARZ, ect. Win or lose I will be glad when tomorrow night is over and the season ends.

TheAdonis2010
this is what ive started a few years ago and its really caught on with the people that were in my league that are in other leagues....ive always thought in the fantasy world the most $ shouild go to team with best overall record through 17 weeks (not a team that has good matchups or catches fire late season and makes a fantasy playoff run)... so in my 12 team league ($100 a team)... 1st place (best record after 17 weeks) gets the title and the most cash $600 2nd place gets double their $ back...$200 3rd gets their $ back $100 throw in $10 a week bonus for the weekly high score $170 throw in a $50 bonus for the team that had the most fantasy points scored AGAINST them (just for fun,so a team can actually kind of root for instead of whining about their team always playing teams that score alot) then we have a "side playoffs" starting in week 14...all 12 teams make the playoff but the top 4 seeds going into week 14 get a 1st round bye (this runs totally independent of the regular season,,,it keeps everyone competitive longer even the bad teams that are stuck at the bottom at least have something to still play for)....matchups are based on week 14 position and from there on winners play in the next week until in week 17 the finals....winner gets $50 + all of the free agent/trade money (usually about $200 or so) and loser gets $30 this year the 1st place team also had 7 high scores...but got knocked out of the playoffs.....the finals consist of the #3 and #8 teams (im the #3 team) only downfall of this of course is the $ is divided up more but if your team is that good you can take 1st place AND the playoffs and high scores and take almost the whole pot

Shorttynaz
Gotta be several bitter people, no matter results right? How often does the #1 or #2 seed win? We had our championship game last week. The #6 seed (10 team league) won the championship. The #1 and #2 seeds were knocked out in their first games of the playoff's. Happens just about every year.. Shorttynaz
Last season in a 14 team league, I was the #8 seed. Pierre Thomas was on the waiver wire down the end of the regular season and I snagged him the week before he really started to get off. He carried me to the championship. That's usually how it works though. The best regular season teams get trounced before making the championship.
