tazinib1
This is the second time in a week I have been offered Mendenhall and I wanna see if I'm missing the boat here. The PITT OL is in shambles and the QB situation there is a wreck. There are people who believe that the Steelers will return to the smash mouth football style of old. I find this alittle hard to believe and I"m wondering if Rashad can even handle that. With the very real possibility of Dwyer stealing some GL work, is Mendenhall still worthy of #1 RB status? And if so, what round would you take him and feel comfortable you have a season long contributor.

The steelers o-line isnt great, but Mendenhall will get alot of the carries. He has a bruising running style but also has good bursts of speed. I dont think johnathan dywer will take alot of goaline carries. Tomlin got ripped for passing the ball too much last year, they are returning to running the ball alot. He will defiently get the chance to put up some major numbers. Hes a little risky (cause of the o-line situation) but has a ton of upside. I like to pick him in the mid to late 2nd round if he is still availible. If you go WR or elite qb in the 1st round he can definetly be your RB1. Whats the trade offer though? Capt. Stanky
I'm kinda luke warm on him too, Taz. There's allot to like, but also allot not to like. The Steelers switched to a pass first offense last year. It's one thing to say you want to run the ball, but if your O-line personel is better at passing blocking it's just hard to stick to the run. Didn't they also lose their best O-linemen for the year? I also don't understand why Tomlin has already named Leftwich his starter. Dixon showed some promise last year. I figured Pitt would want to see what they have in him. Who knows when Ben will get frisky again. This all being said, I still have him graded at mid to late 2nd round. He's probably one of your lower end #1 RB's, but there's too much unknown for me to feel comfortable with him as my #1. Edited July 13, 2010 by Capt. Avernus
I think his production relies on how well Mike Wallace does as a starter.... if the passing game can't be respected, then the run game will be shut down on a mediocre OL....because even when the Steelers were a run 1st offense, the passing game demanded respect and it wasn't just Hines Ward that created this....especially now when he's a bit long in the tooth.. Seahawks21
I'm pretty darn high on him. Talent rises. He's talented.
Capt. Stanky
Another concern I have about Mendenhall is his drive/desire to be great. He almost quit at Illinois before his Jr. year. I just don't know if he really loves the game of football. Therefore, I don't know if he will put in the necessary work needed to go from good to great. The natural ability is there, but has he ever really had to work at his craft? One again, too much unknown for me to feel comfortable about him as my #1 RB. Scooby's Hubby
interesting ... would you take M Turner, Ryan Grant or Pierre Thomas over him? Just looking at the projected stats. Please advise.

I'd take Turner over him but not the other two. In any kind of keeper I'd take Mendenhall.
Fantazzle
I wouldn't want him as my #1 RB. But think he will live up to the hype he has had so far this off season. And i would take him over Grant and Thomas without a doubt, not the Burner though
Scooby's Hubby
they are all projected close to each other, but you have to like Turner over Mendenhall. Mendenhall is the feature back with a good defense. I do like him alot this year and I have had Grant before. Pierre Thomas is the one I don't have a handle on. BeeR
If I have to settle for him as #1, I will have to follow up with another high 2d tier like Grant. Not my preferred way to go but possible if bidding for the top guys goes crazy.
mrip
He's on my avoid at all costs list. If you don't mind your RB1 getting 1.2 ypc for the first 4-6 weeks of the season he's a great pick. After that how long will it be until Ben pulls a JaMarcus Russell and gets busted with blow and 23 hookers while lighting his neighbor's cats on fire? At that point you're looking at Steven Jackson with half the talent. knowwhatimean? Edited July 16, 2010 by mrip
BearBroncos
Out of the 32 starting RB's in the NFL to date, I'd probably rank Mend at 17. I think the kid has potential, just not in Steelerville. Now granted, I think the Steelers this year have a total change of heart and revert back to a run first team, but I think the team is at a point that there isn't much to saving it. Unfortunately, I think Mendenhall only becomes the mast on a sinking ship. Just my two pences, however.
