Osgood has to escape gun-wielding intruder

In a scene straight out of a bad action movie (or an awesome action movie, come to think of it), Jaguars WR Kassim Osgood had to jump out a second-floor window of a home he was visiting Monday night in order to flee a gun-wielding intruder.

In an almost unreal scenario – things like this happen in real life?!? – Osgood was pistol-whipped before escaping and the 19-year-old woman he was visiting traded gunfire with the alleged assaulter, police said.

The Florida Times-Union has the story, and it sounds like a crazy one.

Osgood and his companion were watching TV about 11:15 p.m., when a man, identified as 20-year-old Julian Armond Bartletto entered the room with his face covered by a plastic bag and began throwing Mackenzie Rae Putnal around the room by her hair and hitting her with his fists and his gun.

He also hit Osgood in the head with the gun, according to the police report.

Bartletto held the gun to the heads of Osgood and Putnal, and apparently, he hit her dog as well.

The conclusion of the story:

(T)hen he ordered the couple to sit on the floor, Putnal escaped down a hall and leaped over the balcony to the floor below, the report said.

The gunman ran after her, so Osgood jammed a chair under the game room door handle and jumped out a window to the lawn below, running to a neighbor’s house to call police. Meanwhile, Bartletto and Putnal confronted each other downstairs with guns. The woman targeted him with her laser sight before both shot at each other and missed.

Bartletto was later arrested and charged with aggravated battery, false imprisonment, armed robbery, burglary and violation of an injunction. He’s in jail with no bond.

Osgood politely declined comment today.
