A hugh catalog to choose from with lots of different influences during his career, however I have to say that one of his lesser known tracks off of Slowhand makes me want to boogie every time I hear it.

The Core.

I guess it's corny, but "tears in heaven" is a pretty darn good song. I like "after midnight" quite a bit, but I'd sooner hear JJ Cale's original than Clapton's cover. same deal with "I shot the sheriff". Layla is a great song too. another one I like is one he did with steve winwood called "in the presence of the lord"

is this solo or with bands?

I was thinking solo.

I'm not sure why it would make a difference. If your song by Clapton is from a band or solo it is still your favorite by him right?

I am sure there is some subtle reasoning there that I am missing because I pretty much look at the artist and not the supporting cast.

Well, yes and no. I'm thinking that both Cream and Blind Faith were more than just Clapton, no matter how great his influence.

Well in that case..... Derek was more Duane that Clapton too.

I guess I can see your point... but to me Cream was a bass and drums backing up Clapton really....even though Bruce and Baker were definite stars.

(Ginger Baker.... a personal favorite.)

Either way....breaking it up or combining.... my choice would be After Midnight no matter what.

As great as they were, when I hear most of his biggest hits (eg Layla, Cocaine, etc), I turn the channel. So overplayed. But I still really like Bell Bottom Blues and Forever Man. Also Peaches and Diesel and am probably one of the few who thinks the newer version of After Midnight was better.
