Puddy
Can I do it without some software? I have a lease agreement that I need to excerpt but only have Adobe Reader on my PC. Thanks Edited November 15, 2010 by Puddy
twiley
Pretty sure you'll need software to do it, particularly, a full version of Acrobat Pro.

Azazello1313
yeah you need software (acrobat, or something like omnipage) unless it's already been OCR'ed or has rendered text. try selecting some text with your mouse and see what happens. if nothing happens, then you need to have it run through some OCR. if you email it to me I'd be happy to do it for you. Azazello1313
Did you try the text I-beam icon and simply copy-paste? I don't have the reader, so I'm not sure if this works. What about "save as" text? these things would work if the thing was scanned and text-recognized, or if it was generated from an electronic document (like if it was saved out of word into a pdf file). if it is has been scanned and not yet OCR'ed those things won't work. Thanks for the info guys. Yeah, I can't highlight anything with the mouse. I didn't mention it previously but this lease was scanned in so it is a 'picture' to Adobe I believe versus a file that was created in Word and saved as a PDF (which I imagine would be easier to extract). I've called my help desk here but figured I'd come to the TG first if it was a quick DIY fix.
Azazello1313
could try something like this if you're looking for a quick DIY fix

This (I think). Without software, you can block and paste sections of the document, but as a bitmap file. So you can insert the section into a document as an image and you can't change the text. ljbrun
Option - If you google, you'll find free pdf to text converters out there, but it sounds like you don't want to install anything on your pc. Option - Can you access a scanner (directly or via network)? You may be able to scan directly to a text file. Option - You can email the pages in question to me (or someone you know and trust with a converter) and, unless there's some sort of protection that prevents it, you could get a text file in return.
