rajncajn
This has just gotten way past stupid on both sides.
Deathpig
I loved this exerpt from a comment on the story: Why should the owners negotiate with a union that emphatically states that it isn’t a union while stipulating that said non-union’s union-like behavior doesn’t affect its ability to prove in court it isn’t a union? The whole thing is a farce.
Bronco Billy
The story is that the players offered to meet to reach a settlement on their lawsuit, not negotiate a new contract. The owners obviously refused to negotiate a settlement with a decertified group. Pretty weak reporting on NBC's part. Also sounds like the players are getting cold feet without their pet judge presiding. ETA: Just saw it was written by Florio. That explains the level of reporting. Riffraff
Clayton goes on to explain that the only thing needed was the preparation of a “short document” for Judge Susan Nelson explaining that the NFLPA* Executive Committee would participate in the talks as “advisors.” But the league said, “No.” And rightfully so by the owners. Why allow a deceritfied union to be represented (advised) by the the guys they voted to be unemployed? They voted to no longer be represented by the NFLPA*, but still want them to represent/advise? huh? Note to the players: You decertified the association and all it's representation. Stick with your personal lawyers in the lawsuit. If you want a union again, please re-start the process to make one. And if the previous leaders get re-instated: Sham revealed. The owners should pursue getting a court order to see if anyone in the NFLPA* is still getting a paycheck a month after they shut down. If so... explain it to the judge. Get it on record. How many put out their resumes for new positions, got interviews, applied for unemployment?
