Ditkaless Wonders
My wife needs a birthday present. In addition to a nice night out I was thinking a new phone. She texts. She calls. She is getting into skyping on her Mac. She has a camera so has little need there, and is not overly enamored of the net, but she might like to share some photos. No music needs on phone. Current carrier is Verizon. That cam be changed I might like an upgrade too. I have the old person's special. It makes and recieves calls and has big buttons so I can see them. I might like to get on the net, check some scores, check my e-mails at home and work, and make a few calls. I don't need a camera. I would not play games. I get my music elsewhere. I am cmpletely out of the tech loop. You can help, or you can have fun b.s.ing me since I don't really know what is going on in the industry. I got nothing on the phone idea thing. I am far behind the tech curve.

You have a jitterbug? Damn man, how old are you? Anyway, it kind of depends on the woman. Some could like a phone, but I could see others seeing it as you buying yourself and her a new "tech" piece and then calling it a "present for her" only to end up a little underwhelmed. Last I heard the iPhone 5 was supposed to come out in early October so you might have to put a card with an IOU in it for a bit if you go the phone route and her present is very soon. No reason to buy last year's technology when you are probably less than a month away from the new stuff. I prefer Android (and will admit to a bit of apple hating) but if she already has a mac, there should be no problem. If you are thinking of something outside of a phone you might want to give more info and maybe someone will have an idea. Good luck.
Delicious_bass
Wasnt long after I got my iPhone that my wife wanted one. So now we both have the 3Gs and we both like them a lot. Her's was only $49.99, too, when she got it. Its a lot of phone for fitty bucks but still very easy to use, IMO. We have AT&T so I am not sure what is available on Verizon. If not a new phone, is she a big reader? Maybe a Kindle or Nook or whatever they're called?

GL Yeah, but can you use it to actually make calls? Last I heard that was the one small caveat to getting an IPhone. DW - The Samsung Galaxy S II is being releases this Sunday if you have AT&T. It's getting great reviews. Edited September 28, 2011 by tosberg34

DW - The Samsung Galaxy S II is being releases this Sunday if you have AT&T. It's getting great reviews. Who actually uses their phone to make calls anymore? Actually, that was one of the things that made me leery of getting an iPhone. I had read a lot of reviews that said call quality was not good. I have been pleasantly surprised, though
jetsfan
Yeah, but can you use it to actually make calls? Last I heard that was the one small caveat to getting an IPhone. I just got my daughter a phone (not an iphone) for $15/mo. unlimited text and 0.10/call. I asked her what she wanted, she said I was the only one that called her anyway. We need an old out-of-touch graemlin.
Ditkaless Wonders
My wife will get enough of the romantic stuff between flowers, a spa day, dinnner at a place that will cost more than did my first car, the ballet, and a stay at her favorite downtown hotel. She both wants and needs a better phone. Given that she does not care about gaming, movies, music, or surfing the net do I care if she gets year old technology (a massive upgrade btw) or are limited to 3 G's. Will skyping on her phone require 4G capablitilty?
