Bronco Billy
After the roster deadline, NE acquired Greg Salas from STL for a late pick in 2013. Welker's replacement next year? Salas couldn't fit in with STL it seemed, but at Hawaii he put up crazy video-game type numbers running out of the same spot and performing the same job that Welker holds in NE. Potential sneaky pickup & hold from a frustrated Salas owner in deeper dynasty leagues.
DanTheMan_5
I remember you being really high on Salas last year when Danny Amendola went down. I think the writing is on the wall for this being Welkers last year in NE, regardless if Salas fits that bill. What round pick did they get? bostonsoxandy
Through these cuts NE has made themselves the youngest team in the league by the way. Could be a sneaky pickup if a few guys go down with injuries, he's the #5 WR right now not counting Gronk/Hernandez. Definitely a sign that Welker isn't gonna get a longterm deal next year and if he doesn't cave they won't hesitate to move on.
DanTheMan_5
Just read its for a conditional 2015 pick. Reconnected with McDaniels as well. Edited September 1, 2012 by DanTheMan_5
STL Fan
Through these cuts NE has made themselves the youngest team in the league by the way. I thought the Rams were the youngest team by a LOT. Maybe the cuts and trades affected that a ton.
STL Fan
Yep, according to this, the Patriots are the 9th youngest. Rams are the youngest. http://bloggingthebeast.com/2012/09/01/ranking-the-nfl-teams-by-age-rams-and-eagles-have-the-two-youngest-teams-in-the-nfl-chargers-are-the-oldest/

I'll take 9th though, considering the Pats are the 2nd youngest title-contender by that list. Big John
And Salas was cut today, and the Pats re-sign Branch
STL Fan
Man, two teams who need receivers that basically gave up on the guy. What's his deal? I heard nothing locally to say that he was a malcontent or anything. Maybe he's just dumb.
DanTheMan_5
And Salas was cut today, and the Pats re-sign Branch Was there any reason given? Also, any idea what the conditions were for the 2015 pick?

piratesownninjas
Was there any reason given? Also, any idea what the conditions were for the 2015 pick? Probably has something to do with Hernandez being out for at least the next month. Don't have the room to let a guy sit and learn. They resigned Branch in addition to Winslow. I think they want vets that know what they're doing during Hernandez absence.

SMF
Rumor is that Salas will make the practice squad and the Pats are looking for a more veteran presence with Hernandez injured. The Patriots traded a late-round 2015 draft choice for an 18-day trial with Salas, and now they've decided to go back to the known commodity over intriguing potential. We'll now wait to see if Salas clears waivers and possibly returns to the practice squad, as he has eligibility. In that scenario, the Patriots would have the best of both worlds -- an experienced target on the 53-man roster to help ease the loss of tight end Aaron Hernandez (right ankle), as well as a player on the practice squad to groom for the future. http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4730224/this-time-a-branch-for-salas-swap
DanTheMan_5
I was hoping the Hernandez injury could bring Welker more touches, but now I am beginning to wonder. How long before Bill B. tells Josh Mcdaniels to take a hike so they can go back to what was working last year?
Darkhorse1251
I went to High School with Salas. Making Chino proud. I do think he could be potential Wes Welker material, given the chance. Edited September 19, 2012 by Darkhorse1251
