Big Score 1
According to ESPNews, Arlen Harris will start at halfback when the Rams take on the Panthers Sunday. Head coach Mike Martz said Marshall Faulk will be available and he wouldn't rule out the possibility of Steven Jackson being ready, too. The coach told reporters, "We will look at [Jackson] tomorrow to see where he is. ... His knee was drained and there was an awful lot of fluid taken out. So we have to let it calm down." Martz indicated that Faulk is good to go -- if needed. "We're trying to take it easy on him during the week," he explained. "I'd prefer not to play him unless we had to and give him another week off. But we'll see." Faulk has been splitting the first-team work with Harris in practice this week and Harris said he is prepare to handle the starting assignment. "They told me to go about this week like I'm starting," Harris said. "Depending on Marshall and Steven's health that might change. It's a great opportunity." Harris started a pair of games last season and in his debut against Pittsburgh rushed for 81 yards and three touchdowns. Another effort like that could go a long way toward another important road victory for the Rams. Newcomer Aveion Cason will replace Harris on kickoff returns. Cason, signed Monday as a free agent, averaged 18.4 yards on 11 returns in his three previous NFL seasons. That's less than the Rams' league-worst 18.6 average. Martz called him "a home run threat," even though Cason has yet to score on a return. "With that speed, he's electric," Martz said. "He's what we've been looking for as a returner. We'll just see what he can do." Definitely sounds like Harris gets the start, but it could well end up RBBC. I'd be hesitant to rely on him, thinking he'll be getting all the RB looks. Big Score 1
"Arlen will start, and Marshall's ready to go, I think," Martz said. "And we'll just see where Steven is on Sunday." This next paragraph specifically refers to Jackson. "We're going to get him back in short order," Martz assured. "If he misses this one, I'm sure he'll be back the following week. But I don't know that he misses this one. St. Louis Post-Dispatch Way to clear that up for us Martz
