Jody Bo
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/.../all_americans/ Could somebody please tell me what the heck Tommie Harris did to deserve second team all-American? He had 12 solo tackles and two sacks this year. Complete line:TH 24 TT ( Solo: 12) 6 TFL's 2 Sacks 16 QB press 1 FF 0 Blk By comparison UT freshman Rod Wright who in no way am I claiming should have been an All American, I'm just comparing Tommie to another DT. Here were Rod's numbers. Remember, he didn't start early on. RW 59 TT (Solo: 26) 13 TFL 4.5 Sacks 12 QB press 1 FF 1 Blk Now, please tell me why Tommie Harris is a second team all american? It's obviously not his play on the field, so how about some suggestions on what it may be.... Could it be that SI put him on the cover so they have to give him some credit? Sgt. Ryan
Could it be because he pressured the QB into sacks for other members of his team, and he was a disruptive force that was double and triple teamed every play, while Freshman was the beneficiary fo a single team every play. Or maybe its because OU defense is the best in the country and in big games, Harris was impressive. While Texas got beat in both its big games this year. 1 by OU, giving up 248 yds rushing to Q, and 300 total rushing yards to the Sooners, while OU compeletly shut down the run in every single game on the season. So by your standards Rod is a better DL than C Redding. I dont think so.
Sgt. Ryan
Also, Harris has been hurt week 2 and wont be 100% the rest of the season. And Harris is also a top 10 overall draft pick the season he declares. I guess that is only because SI ranks him this high, right. While Wright will be lucky to even make and NFL roster. Or could it be because teams ran right at the freshman, while teams consistantly ran away from harris. Hmm, should I continue
Clubfoothead
Actually, you got it right early on, Harris is on the list because he plays for OU.
Kansas State 2000
Sgt. Ryan:... OU defense is the best in the country ... Actually Kansas State finished #1 in total defense & scoring defense this year.
Jody Bo
While Texas got beat in both its big games this year This is totally laughable. Suddenly Texas winning at KSTATE isn't a big game? How was TTech a "bigger" game than KState? Geez, if Tech was a big game why weren't NU, and A&M big games? If UT losing to Tech was a big game, than I submit that OU lost two of its biggest games. Both in which Tommie Harris did absolutely nothing. So by your standards Rod is a better DL than C Redding. I dont think so. Please remind me what I initially posted that made you feel like I was inferring this. I initially said I WAS NOT touting Wright as an All-American, just a position comparison to Harris. I think SI should be embarrassed that Tommie Harris is second team and Cory Redding is merely honorable mention. While Wright will be lucky to even make and NFL roster Another totally assinine statement. Wright was the Big 12's freshman of the year. Coming out of Highschool he was the number one rated DT in the nation. Barring injury he will be a #1 draft pick in a few years. FYI Wright had a better freshman season than Harris. Also, Harris has been hurt week 2 and wont be 100% the rest of the season. Precisely, and he had a bad season because of it. Now, how in the hell is this an excuse for making him a second team all american? Isn't this an honor that is EARNED on the field, injury or no injury? Him having an injury doesn't enable him to be held to lower standards. That is no freakin excuse. Tommie Harris didn't have a good year. Coffeeman
I'm confused Kevin - R U actually giving Sarge props? A year and a half late? Is he even still around here?
Sgt. Ryan
I guess Lovie Smith is also and idiot for taking Tommie Harris as the #1 DL taken in this yrs draft at #14 overall F'n idiot.
