"The Bengals would neither confirm nor deny an Internet report that tailback Chris Perry has another sports hernia that will require additional surgery.

Head coach Marvin Lewis doesn't provide injury updates in the offseason, and Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan had no comment about a story on ProFootballTalk.com that cited Perry "needs surgery for yet another sporst hernia." Telephone calls to Perry's agent, Eugene Parker, were not returned.

A training camp holdout, coupled with a hamstring injury and sports hernia, limited Perry to just two games last year."

It may or may not be true, but I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Agreed.

But it is strange that Bengals spokesman, Jack Brennan, had a big fat no comment and Perry's agent won't return calls don'tcha think?

The silence is deafening :D

Also rumored that he's expected to be OK for June mini camps. Supposedly it was the same type of hernia on the opposite side of his abdomen. I'm sure its true. If they don't get Rudi long term they will have to see if Perry can stay healthy and contribute this year.

Marvin Lewis finally broke his silence regarding Perry:

Coach rebuts Internet rumors

By Mark Curnutte

Enquirer staff writer

Coach Marvin Lewis on Wednesday responded to an Internet report that running back Chris Perry had suffered a setback in his recovery from a sports hernia.

"Chris Perry is fine," Lewis said of the second-year running back. Perry in January underwent surgery to seal a hole in his abdominal cavity.

"The doctors said they did everything they had to do," Lewis said.

The Bengals will begin their offseason strength and conditioning program April 4.

Asked if Perry would participate, Lewis said: "He'll be ... we don't know where he'll be in regards to doctor's clearance. But when it's time to be on the field in June, supposedly he'll be ready."

Perry's role became less clear Wednesday when the Bengals signed featured back Rudi Johnson to a five-year contract.

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Hmm......."supposedly he'll be ready"......not exactly a ringing endorsement, is it? :D

That sucks but yeah I agree the Bengals would be retarded to not resign Rudi after last year.  This year is all about CJ producing.

CJ doesn't have nearly as much to prove as Palmer, IMO.

Chris Perry wasn't that impressive at Michigan, so this doesn't surprise me at all.

Palmer had a QB rating of 62 through his first seven starts. His last six his rating was 96.This included games against good defenses,Washington,Pittsburgh,New England, and Baltimore.

On the road against Baltimore he led the Bengals to a fourth quarter comeback.Palmer was 29 of 36 for 382 yards,3 Tds 1 Int,and a QB rating of 127.Two of his incompletions were spikes to stop the clock.

Palmer has progressed nicely, and if his last six games were any indication the Bengals O will be potent this season.

Agreed, but my original point was that Palmer still has more to prove than CJ, who is already a legitimate NFL star. CJ's performed at a high level for more than a half season and has been to a Pro Bowl.

Also agreed that the Benals offense should be pretty good this season. For the sake of fantasy owners, hopefully as good as '03.
