Wpob
with LT now released and Sproles looking like a thrid down back more than an everydown one, are the Chargers going to look to the draft for a RB or to the free agency market? I do not know much about the colllege RBs coming out and there does not seem to be a lot of options in FA. One option that MIGHT make sense is Thomas Jones. The Jets could dangle Jones as trade bait - he could be a good additon to SD. Any thoughts?
DMD
Thomas Jones is a one-year stop gap if that. He ran 331 times for 1402 last year which was great but look what Shonn Greene did in that offense when given the opportunity. Jones ran for 4.2 YPC and Green had 5.0 YPC in the regular season. He gained 304 yards on 54 carries for a 5.7 YPC on the road three times in the playoffs against the best AFC teams. SD needs to till the soil and start over with a young player. There are a few in the draft that will make it back to the end of the first round for them that will be immediately an immediate fantasy factor at least potentially. Free agency is pretty slim this year and I would expect the Chargers to try to get their primary back in the draft. If they wanted to get an old guy to groom a younger one, why get rid of LT? bpwallace49
Jahvid Best? I think through a combo of Sproles/ Chester Taylor and a rookie to ease into the starter role the Bolts could get by nicely for next year . . . Pierre Thomas? Cunning Runt
Thought then when they were talking about it a couple years ago, and still think now, that Michael Bush might be a good fit in SD. kpholmes
Jahvid Best? I love Jahvid Best, but he's only slightly bigger than Sproles and would make for a poor compliment imo. Best will need to bulk up if he's going to survive hits like this in the NFL.
kpholmes
Thought then when they were talking about it a couple years ago, and still think now, that Michael Bush might be a good fit in SD. SD wants to give a 3rd, Al Davis wants a 2nd. After Bush has shown some success, I can't see Al changing his mind - but if the Chargers are willing to pay for it, Al will deal him. Reported today that Al has been shopping half the team in the past few days, including Nnamdi.
BeeR
Dwyer would be their best bet but it's just not a good year for RBs either in the draft or in FA, so they might actually consider Jones as that 1 yr stop-gap and aim for a legit back next year. The window is fast closing in SD. While a stop-gap player might make the most sense, AJ needs to go out and get the 3-4 pieces left to make a push this year and next. kpholmes
Chargers could let Sproles walk as well. As I was saying about that fast closing window...
Chargerz
.....a draft pick. Many of the mock drafts have A.J. picking an RB in the first round. While this is possible because of the supposedly few quality RB's in the draft, A.J. has a history of going into the latter rounds for running backs (example: Michael Turner). piratesownninjas
Call Buffalo and offer a third for Marshawn Lynch. SD gets a workhorse back that's young. Lynch goes back to Cali, and Buffalo rids themselves of Lynch. Everyone is happy.
Chargerz
Chargers could let Sproles walk as well. As I was saying about that fast closing window... I'm sure as a Raiders fan you want that window to close REALLY fast, but rest assured A.J. wants the window to remain wide open. If he can't come to terms with Sproles he will find a replacement either through the draft or free agency.

Anytime you've got a young franchise quarterback half the battle is already won. I wouldn't say the window is closing at all. I still think they're far and away, the best team in the AFC West. And the only way that changes is if McDaniels quits running coaches and players off.
BeeR
Yeah I was wondering where the "window is closing" was coming from myself. Lynch would probably suck but would be worth a 3d round risk. No more.
Cunning Runt
One of the Sirius NFL Radio talking heads was discusssing how a straight up trade - Antonio Cromartie for Marshawn Lynch would probably make sense for both teams and the players involved. Who knows.
piratesownninjas
Lynch would probably suck but would be worth a 3d round risk. No more. His only two years to get substantial touches he put up 1,300 yards and 7 TDs followed by 1,350 and 9 TDs. He'll also be 24 years of age next year. The guy is young and talented. He is a knucklehead, but that shouldn't bother the Chargers too much. He'd fit right in.

Sproles would be better served in a trade to Buffalo for M.Lynch, meanwhile, I like a thought up scenerio of the Chargers trading for DeAngelo Williams. Panthers don't have a first round pick this year, and whether the Chargers get Stewart or Williams, wouldn't matter. I believe most of the Chargers success is due to their offensive line being able to open HUGE running lanes. Both Backs in Carolina are good enough, and youthful enough to warrant consideration for a the Chargers 1st round draft choice easily imo.
