skylive5
Why do the officials need to say who the offender is on most penalties? Offsides ... obviously the Def Illegal motion... obviously the Off Unabated to the QB...obviously the Def Interfering with catch on punt...obviously the Kicking Team Lined up in the neutral zone...obviously the Def False start.... obviously the Off Seems like there are all kinds of penalties that are obvious who the culprit is. Why do you need to say it?
heehawks
Um...so the coaches know who it was? Um...so the people who don't know football that well know who it was? Um...so the scorers and statisticians know who it was? Yeah, pretty obvious why they say who the offender was.

skylive5
Illegal motion number 28. How could a scorer or statistician not know that it was an offensive player? How could a coach not know that it was his player? Unabated to the QB number 77. How could a scorer or statistician not know that it was a defender? How could a coach not know that it was his player? Makes no rhyme or reason to me to state to obvious. I can understand the need to say offense or defense for the announcers since they seldom watch the same game I am. But other than that just no reason.
stevegrab
Because it is part of announcing the penalty, which side/team committed it, what the infraction is, accepted or declined and the actualy penalty accessed. I don't really see what the big deal is, its not new and has been part of football for the 40+ years I've been watching? What is gained by ommitting the word offense/defense? You know what I can do without, the new speech after a post whistle penalty "that penalty means the player will be ejected if another penalty of that kind is accessed" and repeating it for each and every player. We'll see it that continues all season and into the future.
Montana is da Man
There are several penalties that can be called on the offense or defense.........holding, personal foul, unsportsman like conduct, unnecessary roughness....... It makes it easier for everyone to know which team the penalty is being called against
skylive5
It has annoyed me for the 60+ years I have been watching/listening. Waste of words. Agree on the speeches.
