Big John
ESPN television is reporting that Newsday is saying ARod is likely to be traded to the Yankees, and will play 3rd base there. Closest ESPN link as of now. IMO, another example with what is wrong with baseball. frown
myhousekey
I didn't like baseball to begin with and this will make me even less interested. thumbs_d So it's Arod for Soriano + Jose Contreras and minor league catcher Dioner Navarro? LegFuJohnson
What's not to like? Newspaper rumors become instant message boards threads? That's a great thing about baseball. Unless you were referring to the Yankees actually getting A-Rod (it won't happen). Yeah, that would probably make things unfair, the Yanks would win for the 5th straight year, low payroll teams like the Marlins would have no shot at winning the World Series. If the last two years have taught us anything it's that even the low payroll teams can beat the Yankees if the cards fall right. Even if they do get A-Rod, yeah they'll have a great shot at winning again, but it's still no guarantee. Especially after they retooled half of their team and 3/5 of their starting pitching staff. Dbaxx
LegFuJohnson: Unless you were referring to the Yankees actually getting A-Rod (it won't happen). Pahleez! Steinbrenner has A-rod wrapped around his finger! This trade is already done.
toofer
Hate the A-rod trade. Thats just GS trying to buy another championship. But its all within the rules. The Yankees/red Sox duel is always interesting but this year watch the Cubs/Astros. Gonna be a dogfight. Funny thing is I saw an interview with some St. Louis Cardinals players. They actually think they have a chance to take the division. crack smokers.
RedSox in 6
This trade will just make this year's Red Sox Championship Season that much SWEETER! Georgie will be having mild strokes during the September stretch when his $200 Million dream team and dream infield sputters... BRING IT ON, GEORGIE!! Our beloved Sox are going to make YOU, and your pimped out team, look silly for a change! (Quite honestly, Boston is sick of playing that role!) wall_bas This year should be great fun for Boston/New York fans but it's gotta be getting really old for the rest of the nations teams... Someone's gotta bring down the Yankees a few years in a row.. that will take the spending power out of Georgie's book'o'tricks. A few below-great seasons in a row and the ole boy will be drooling all over himself! Red Sox fans always say "There is always next year"... Well, .. it's "next year".. pitchers report this week.. This is great having football/baseball year-round!
LegFuJohnson
This one has got to hurt Boston more than most. The Contreras thing one one thing, but this A-Rod to Boston was basically done. Nomar & Manny out, A-Rod & Magglio in? And for George to just get it done in a weekend's time (if this really happens, I won't believe it until I see the press conference)... that's really gotta hurt. Italian Stallion
A-Rod is the best player in the game right now, but Soriano is not that far behind and he's only been in the league for a few years. So, the Yankees didn't "buy" A-Rod. They traded one of the best players in the game to get one of the best players in the game. You must give credit to the Yankees since they are getting A-Rod at good bargain with Texas still having to pay for $67 millon of his salary. So, in reality, they are only paying him about $112 million for seven years. ...and reports are that Contreras and the minor league catcher are not part of the deal. It is a player to be named later. Which will be a minor league pitcher.
Czarina
They were able to pull off the deal because Soriano is so much cheaper than Manny was. It made it possible to have Texas eat some of the ARod contract. It's all about the cash and ARod's desperation to get out of Texas. The Yankees will now implode from the collective weight of their egos. lol How do you think ARod will hold up under the intense scrutiny of the NY market? Has he ever played in a fishbowl like this? Jeter better have a career year, or they'll be calling for ARod at shortstop by the All Star break. Best of luck, hope it works out for you!
