wildcat2334
will never forget his voice calling an M's game- it is engrained in my head forever. The magical run the M's made was made even better by the pure joy Niehaus experienced thru the whole ride - the 95-01 period was a long time coming for him. just a pure baseball announcer and right behind Vin Scully IMO I grew up in his neighborhood and knew his kids. My grandmother housesat for them when the family was on vacation - sad sad day.
Seattle LawDawg
A friend of mine said it best: "Today, I lost a fishing partner, a co-worker, and one hell of a baseball announcer".
Seahawks21
Every year I would swear myself off of the Seattle Mariners. Then every spring I would hear his voice while flipping channels and would basically leave my tv on that channel for the next six months. "My Oh My!" theprofessor
He was the best and will be missed. Enough said.
bushwacked
I've shed a tear twice for people I didn't know. Hunter S. Thompson was the first and Dave Niehaus was the second....this clip is gold: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcA5w0ztMp0...player_embedded
godtomsatan
I know a lot of this is may only pertain to those of us in the lonely corner of the country, but for those outside the region unfamiliar with Dave Niehaus here are a couple of great obits from Art Thiel and another one from former broadcast partner Ken Levine. bushwacked
An appropriate couple of pics from an impromptu memorial today at Safeco: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ABPub/zoo...2013428301.html http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ABPub/zoo...2013428299.html I know I'm a homer, but his impact on baseball play by play is undoubtedly diminished on the national scene, by default, by being the voice of the Mariners...to me he was the most consistent homer sport icon in Seattle history. MLB put together a pretty good highlight reel.. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=12992039
