Avernus
I recall him playing well last year when called upon.... But is he really worth a #4 ranking in TE's?...over the likes of Crumpler?... I mean, I own him and all...but I didn't know he called for a top 5 ranking, though....that looks like outstanding value...
DMD
once you leave the dynamic duo of Gonzo and Gates, and realize Witten is at least going to be solid with a shot at spectacular, the rest of the tier should be arrayed to which tight end could step up with the most upside. That, to me, is Clark who combined with Pollard for 11 TDs last year and now Pollard is gone. Clark was the first tight end drafted in 2003 at the 1.24 pick (Witten was the 4th at the 3.05). He was taken to be a receiving tight end in the greatest passing offense in the NFL that now has Pollard gone and Clark ready to step up. He has the highest upside, easily, of any of the remaining tight ends. Crumpler? Who else is the defense supposed to cover on a pass play? Shockey? Wrong Manning. Heap? Boller in a rushing offense with Mason there to catch the few and largely errant passes. I'd gladly take my chances with Clark...
Avernus
I see, I see....he's one of the players i didn't know much about...I didn't know if he was skilled like that...because having a ranking of right behind Witten is pretty high to me.. Witten was a stud TE for me in a 1 pt per rec league...and he was a FA pick...if Clark has the ability to net catches like they do...then he might be one of the overlooked TE's...even just in general.. CaptainHook
No other TE has really stepped forward so far this pre-season. It looks like it will probably be TE by committee for the #2 spot. Dallas has moved into Pollard's postion, instead of spending a lot of time in the H back role, like he did his first few years. As long as he can stay healthy, he will have a big year. Seahawks21
Dallas in incredibly talented. Soft hands and a tough player. Add a tenth to Jason Witten's 40 time and you get Dallas Clark. TE has always been a productive position under Manning, and without Pollard, Dallas Clark will shine. However, as with all Colt receiving options, he will be incredibly inconsistent. Peyton finds a matchup or two each week he wants to exploit and tends to ignore the other options. Clark will go 2 for 20, then 8 for 110.....just like Wayne, and Stokley (look at their game logs). Marvin of course is a bit more consistent. As noted earlier, the TE position appears to be wide open after the top 3. Heap, Clark and Crumpler will all have similar stats, so it pretty much comes down to personal preference.
