thechamp
What do you do if teams are putting in bad line ups to help other team make the playoffs?
BearcatTom
If you have proof that the "losing" teams are intentionally tanking to help other teams, then to me that is cheating. This needs addressed by the league immediately. 1 - You could ask for a league vote to retro lineups, but that can get messy. Unless their are obvious errors, like starting a hurt player for a good player, it is hard to say who should have started. 2 - At a min., the league should vote on kicking these losers out effetive immediately and letting either the commish or the league vote on their line ups for the remainder of the year. 3- If it is found out that the teams that are benefiting from this behavior have agreed to split money with the losing teams, then that constitutes Collusion and these winning teams should be kicked out also. This is the type of stuff that breaks leagues apart and can ruin friendships. Bare min., you need to find another league next year if there are more than 3 teams involved. Gdawg
I'm not certain, but I think we have the same situation in one of my leagues this year... There are a couple ways to combat this problem, the most comon being to tie a team's finish to draft order. You wanna throw games? Fine, you pick 5th or 6th...not the best spot to have in a serpentine draft. Other solutions include awarding $$$ for highest score per week, so even the bad teams put up the best possible lineups in the hopes of winning some cash. Sadly there's not much you can do at the moment, unless your commish has the stones to eject a dishonest owner. That being said its also very difficult if not impossible to prove. The best approach is to implement some of the safeguards Ive mentioned.
SNOWBOUND33
We have high/low reward/payout every week. Also we have the teams who miss the playoffs play for just points the last 2 weeks with the 2 week high total getting 5th etc. and their is still money to be divided accordily for 5th through 10th. This keeps people somewhat interested until the end. Anybody throwing a game should be tossed from the league and get a blanket party as well. BirdmanJones
A timely post as we're considering how to deal with "suspicious lineup activity" for week 12. In short, Team A (was 3-8 and out of contention) benched Alge Crumpler and Lawrence Tynes in favor of Bobby Engram and Nate Kaeding (after consistently playing them in prior games) with the result being a win for Team B (was 6-5 and in 1st place in the div.). Coincidentally, the two team owners are brothers... Hard to prove-any other thoughts on appropriate action?
tonorator
you need to have a "no tanking" clause in your rules and then the commish needs to have the authority to call this out and ensure all owners are trying to win each week. if the commish must, he should have the power to set the lineups for teams that are tanking and refuse to change - and then it should be decided if the tanking owner should stay in the league. someone can tank not only to directly help another team make the playoffs, but they can also tank if they think it will help their own chances of getting a better match-up in the playoffs. regardless, tanking of all kinds should be outlawed and the commish should be verifying that teams are submitting their strongest lineups down the stretch. Gdawg
Birdman, I'd consider the old "sugar in the gas tank" approach, seems to be pretty effective
