rocknrobn26
What is going on with there running game ??? Any idea ? They discovered that they could pass AND COMPLETE!!!! Seriously, the main reason they ran so much the passing game was a joke, but the 'O' line was top notch and they got away w/ it. Hell, the last great QB was Luckman, and even I'm not old enough to remember him.
gd74
Thats not a very informed answer....regardless if they can pass the ball better..... they are averaging under 3.0 ypc..... and that is horrible !!!!!! They had a better average last year with no passing game.... this goes totally against normal logic....
Pope Flick
Minnesota put out a nasty D on them and the Pack always plays them pretty tough. The OL has looked out of sync on opening holes but is performing pass blocking well at the moment. It'll take some time and an avoidance of injury but they should be able to get it rolling again. Besides at 3-0 who's complaining except for TJ owners?

If you'd use some logic, there are only so many plays in a game. In the past passing plays were fewer so running was more. More running plays, more ops to break one thus raising one's average/carry. With more passing plays, less running plays, thus less ops to break one. I hope that 'splains it. Itmay not be the answer you want, but it's the best answer I have. I don't think the line looked out of sync Pope, but if you think so, OK. Det & Minny are not last year's teams. They have done good things in the off season. If anyone thought that the Bears were gonna run all over them, they were wrong. Try and disect it you want GD, but it's not that complicated. Jumbie
The other factor is that they have been trying to get the TE more involved in the passing game. They are using fewer formations that call for the TE to stay in and block. As a lifelong Bears fan, I hope that, for a change, the pass starts to set-up the run. I would hope that as teams realize they need to defense the pass, they won't be able to stack 8 in the box. That should create some opportunities in the running game. The season is young and I get the sense that the offense still is trying to figure out their identity. Right now they seem enamoured with this newfangled thing...the forward pass. We all know that the ground game is what wears Ds down and that you need to stick with it in order for it to pay dividends on those time-consuming, run the clock out, fourth quarter drives. My hunch is that if I am smart enough to realize that the running game needs to get going, the Bear's coaches will figure it out.

Chavez
now may be a good time to buy on TJ The man is wise - as said above, the Bears are probably enamored of the fact that for the first time in about 10 years they have something resembling an actual passing offense. Defense will adjust to minimize the passing O, opening up the run game. And, I daresay, when all is said and done, the Bears may actually have something resembling a balanced offense. Passing is fine, but championship teams need to be able to run out the clock. I expect them to do it soon. If they want to be a championship team. Pope Flick
Those two have a ways to go. Without digging up the number (because I'm not sure where to look) I recall a graphic that showed 12-18 starters since Harbaugh left them in the early 90's. If 18 sounds high, keep in mind Hery Burris might not even be their most obscure starter during that run. Or Moses Moreno. Or J Quinn. Or Danny Kanell. Get my drift? Which is what said above! They discovered a passing game! NO, I don't believe the 'O' line was out of sync. They looked fine to me, but I'll respect other opinions. Respect, but not necessarily agree w/. My point is don't over anal-ize! The Bears are doing fine. They found a new use for TE's. not just blocking, but catching. They found WR's! This will take away from the running game! Dam.....I'm tired re='splaining this!

Pope Flick
Here's more to add since 1991: Walsh, Kramer, matthews, Krieg, Mirer, McNown, Miller, Chandler, Kordell Stewart, and my 2 faves: Peter Tom Willis and Will Furrer who I don't even remember being on the team. Anyone know if Cory Sauter got a start? That's from 91 on. Now please excuse me while I go throw up my dinner.

gilthorp
Here's my opinion. Most of the guys on the line have at least 8 years of experience, maybe more when you're looking at Brown and Miller. They've got mileage and it becomes less and less of a mash game when the body stops working so well. Add that together with the fact that they've played 3 division games, where you just throw those records out, and those stats out, and you've got a slow start to the running game. The bottom line here is that the Bears WILL NOT abandon the run, regardless of what happens on a weekly basis. Their scheme is built on this premise and they will use TJ at least 75% of the time. Now, I've watched every game and TJ has had about 5 runs that he was one step away from breaking a long one. Last year at this time, he broke at least 3 or 4 by this time, and that's the difference in the average. Nothing really to be alarmed about, especially since they won't abandon the run. I read what you wrote, and I don't see much of a diff from what I wrote. Correct me if I'm wrong! Some people are looking for a grand analysis of what is wrong w/ the running game. I say BS, dammit, it's a new 'O' in many ways. Let it play out. Is there anything wrong w/ the 'O' line, I say NO. Is there anything wrong w/ the running game, I say NO also, just different! Are we using a TE for something other than a blocker, YES! Ahhhh.....screw this. I'm preaching to the choir. We all see what we see and not necessarily the same thing. If I post in this thread again, then shoot me. The guy who started this thread is looking for an answer that really doesn't exist! Bottom line, the Bears are different this year. Are they going away from the run, NO! It's just that they have a different 'O' than most are used to. Will they change? Mebbee if the situation calls for it! All I can say is.....................Don't ask a question that you are not prepared to hear an answer to! Open your mind when you ask a question. Don't have an answer prepared! Or just shut the F up! I'm done!
Ralph Furley
We just discovered the forward pass this year. It's kind of neat that you can throw the ball down the field and score.
