Over the years I have become a Don't bettor, or at least a mix of the two.

I find that being a don't bettor keeps me from chasing the daisies (ie having too many bets on the table that one roll of the dice can take away) and as a result my money stretches further. But you definitely have to have confidence in what you are doing: not only are don't bettors slightly shunned (but not that much, I think it's mostly in the don't bettor's mind, and frankly most people don't even look at what other people are betting), but if you are a don't bettor asking the dealer how to bet, you will be drawing attention to your negative vibes.

Well, sure if you back your PASS line bet up when a point is made and put your money on a 6 or 8 and a 7 shows up, you are screwed. If you plopped down a bet on the COME, and a 7 is rolled, you get some consolation back, yes, I agree. But, if not, and lets say a 4 is rolled, your COME bet now pushes over to the 4, where you back it up with odds and then you see where I DON"T want to be. I'm not playing for the 7 to come up, I'm playing in hopes it doesn't.

I do see what you are saying, but I just don't play the COME bet anymore and I can't remember why. I'd have to look up the odds again, etc., but I'm pretty sure it was because of the other bets I didn't like that came out of subsequent non-busting roles.

I'm thinking we're more or less on the same side of the coin here. We're both by-the-book kind of players who play for fun, but want to best increase our chances to win. We both play for the 7 not to come up. We both like more action for each roll. I may put more money on the table overall, but I don't want to put all out there as quickly as you may like to.

While the 4 and 10 doesn't come up as often as I'd like it to, it has come plenty in my years of playing and it's a great feeling when I have established the 4 and 10 with come out rolls only to knock them down and watch my small odds pay handsomely. I have also seen the 6 & 8 pay very nicely. Unfortunately the 7 comes up most often and I have found that the COME betting seems to extend my session and allow me a good chance of making a comeback when the dice insist on establishing a point only to 7-out one roll later-- something I have seen way too often. Personal preference, both solid craps strategies.

Believe me................what ever spain showed you was prolly good, but gambling is based on the millennium, NOT a short stay at any table!

It's sometimes easy to win short term, seen it many times, It's those that can hang in the game for years that prove their worth!

that was tonight in a nutshell. before dinner: turned $100 into $460 in an hour. we don't gamble a lot, so seeing the dealer color those chips and then hitting the cashier was definitely a rush. we paid for a nice dinner in cash, then hit the tables again, where we lost about $200 just as easy as we won. :D we still came out ahead a couple hundred bucks, though, so we're happy.

Sadly, I don't think I've ever seen a $5 table.

Saw them in Vegas when I was w/ Skip in Feb, at the Flam, but midweek! I have also heard they have a lot of $1 tables downtown Vegas. I hate downtown, so it is moot to me!

we played at two $5 tables tonight (although, being a high roller, i bet as if the minimum were $10). one was at bally's, the other at paris. granted, this was a tuesday night, and after 9 or 10 pm, the $5 tables were pushed up to $10.

That is what Vegas is all about to me. I'm pretty conservative, so if I win a few hundred bucks, I feel great!

Either my post was lost in a bunch of replies or people are ignoring me so I will post again

I was thinking of placing LAY bets on 4 and 10 (meaning the 7 will hit before the 4 and 10) on every single roll. I know your odds stinks something like you have to put 40 to get 20 but this sounds good.

Actually the lay bet has house adv. ranging from ~2.5% - ~4%, but there is a 5% commission. I dunno....risking $20 to get back $10 seems  . JMHO

RR is a wise old man

When I lived in NJ and would go to AC the way I treated my night of gambling was like going to dinner or a movie.....if you go to dinner you know you are gonna spend $XX and when you go home your belly will be full......When I gamble I have my $ and that was all I would gamble with....If I lost it in 15 mins then oh well.....if I got up I would keep my winnings say in my right pocket and my starting $ in my left.....I knew we would be gambling til say 1 or 2am so my goal was to play until I lost my $ or the time to leave came....might seem like an odd way to do it but I always looked at it like I was going out to dinner and expected to come home without my starting $...of course I wanted to win but that was just icing on top of my night out.

when a shooter got on a hot streak, i would naturally up my bets. since i was playing on $10 tables, the biggest chip i'd get back were the $25 green ones. every few rolls i would stuff a few of those in my pocket. out of sight, out of mind. yeah, i would sometimes take a few back out to cash in, but for the most part, i'd leave them there. when i'd run out of chips on the table, i'd usually have a stash in my pocket -- at least the amount i started with, but usually more.

on the other hand, my wife got pissed and called me tight-fisted. :D

Ty, Keg, but I have done my homework. There are a lot of 'hedge bets' in craps, but if you do those, big $$$ is req'd and long term. I have spent a 'bit' of time in Vegas. (Stopped counting after 40 trips, since ~1975)

I only play the game I know in Vegas. But not all of them either! (Like 3 card.... :D ...everyone says it's a players game, but it busts my balls everytime. FWIW it's about a 4% house game.)

The games I don't know (or won't play) are:

Pai Gow(Heard there are a lot of pushes)

Texas Hold'em (The rules for when to stay and when to drop just don't make sense to me )

Slots! (My wife plays "Lobster Mania" :D She did well only once, but she keeps going back. If she loses $10 she quits! :D )

Other games I will play:

Caribbean Stud.................If you can hit a decent hand early, you can play free for quite awhile. ($5 table preferable)

Let it Ride........Crazy,streaky game, but I like it. Minimal brain power, good morning game, but I avoid the $10 tables.....most of the time. :D The 3 card side bet always sucks me in! :D

Roulette...........yeah maybe the worst game in a casino, but a great late night, no-brainer game to play when the scotch level is reaching full. Here too I look for a $1-$2 game. $5 roulette sucks balls! (Sidebar......I have heard that the old "Money Plays" on roulette is no longer! True?)

Video Poker I will play, but let's get serious here......it's a slot w/ a different interface. I know sor-es had a system that Sky did well at. (sky your input req'd.) I tried it and went up in flames. I usually play $1 dueces wild. I have hit 5 of a kind 3 or 4 times in the last 6 years. $1000 payout.

Other advice:

Stay away from the perpetual shufflers on BJ. You WILL get killed!

Shoe BJ I avoid. I like to handle the cards, plus the 6-5 vs 3-2 payout in a single deck game is fine w/ me. Not that many BJ's in a single deck anyway.

The NEW Side bets in the old games are highly favored house advantage. Stay away! (Yeah I know the 3-card option in Let it ride is very tempting! :smash: )

Back to craps..............tip "the boys"! They will watch your bets and help you!

Never play the Big 6/8! Biggest/most obvious sucker bet in Vegas!

Tip the dealer if you're up. It's their rice bowl!

First REAL drink at a table, tip the waitress $5! $1-$2/per afterward. If you do that you will NEVER go thirsty!

Introduce yourself to the pit boss. If he knows you, you will get max comps/credits.

Get the players card in EVERY casino! Costs you nothing ('cept maybe some junk mail), and if you hit a big one, it will payoff. ( Yeah this is arguable)

Enjoy, and have fun! If anything pisses me off the most it is a player going down who is acting like an ass. If you are losing too much.....QUIT!!!!

Gamble for fun not Profit! If your loses hurt, you playing to much! The casino ALWAYS wins in the end. All we try to do is hit them when they are slipping a little! (Yeah, old man talkin')

plus in single deck, the dealer has to stop to shuffle, slowing things down a bit, which i like.

i couldn't believe how many guys around me had huge stacks of chips and would barely tip at all. if i got on a run i'd put a $5 chip on the line for the dealer, and they always were appreciative. sometimes it won, sometimes not, but they're attitude toward me was always a little better afterward. and it helps if you tip a little at a time, instead of just when you leave.
