They are also to blame. I have zero pity for the mortgage companies who have fallen by the wayside recently due to the subprime collapse. They used very risky lending practices and are now being burnt by them.

i was jokin....i agree and have no sympathy for the bankrupt mortgage companies. i just get sick of people always lookin for someone else to blame. they should do their own homework and realize what they were getting into. its all about keeping up with the joneses. a sad problem with our society.

Agreed. I've been wondering for the past 10 years how so many people have been affording such nice houses. I think I now have the answer to a lot of them.

My wife and I are always amazed at how many nice homes there are around Grand Rapids--I'm sure this is part of it. (I also think people around here just prefer to put their money into their homes instead of doing anything else with it.)

they are starting to investigate the home builders too. those that offered special mortgages and incentives to buy.
