AtomicCEO
http://www.neooffice.org It's the OSX Port of OpenOffice. Compatible with many Microsoft formats.

Dr. Sacrebleu
You could always go out and buy office X. I get about 6 documents I can't read a year. 4 of them being power point presentations about my soccer team in france, 1 of them being some sort of joke email, and 1 being, in this case not insignificantly, a .doc for the procedures to follow to have my son recognized by the french state. So it seems like office x might be a slightly pricy option considering the use I will be gettting from it. Thanks CEO, off to download... Caveman_Nick
http://www.neooffice.org It's the OSX Port of OpenOffice. Compatible with many Microsoft formats. This is one way to get it done. Another is installing X11 on your mac (comes on the system disc) and then installing Open Office for the Mac is a better way to go. I have used both at my office and have had fewer problems with Open Office than with NeoOffice. NeoOffice is a port of Open Office to OS X to eliminate the need for X11. I found NeoOffice to be less stable.

I found NeoOffice to be less stable. I've worked with both. It may have been more stable, but I found it to be slower to load, slower to work with, and generally clunkier because you were using an alternate windowing environment instead of the native OSX windowing environment. Besides having two menu bars... it was also awkward because it forced you to use Ctrl-C to copy instead of Apple-C, which is standard for native Mac apps. I liked the seamless integration of NeoOffice.

I guess we all have our preference
