detlef
So, I'm running cat-5 wire from my computer to my stereo to give my Airport Express a more positive connection and reduce how often my itunes cuts out. To avoid drilling a hole in the floor, I bought one of those devices that attaches plugs to the end of wires so I can pass the wire through an existing hole in my wall (Cat-5 wire with plug wont fit). According to the directions on the device, the RJ-45 plugs are supposed to fit, but they're just a bit too big. I went back to Lowes looking for anything else but everything that mentioned Cat-5 came with RJ-45 plugs. Any techno-heads out there care to explain where I'm going wrong? Egret
I used a wallplate in the basement that was customizable. It has four "blank" spots in it to insert different outlet types. I have three coax lines and one phone line in it. I needed to splice the phone line and wire it into the jack. I'm pretty sure there's a "blank" for Cat 5 wire. It's in the tiny home theater section of Lowe's. If you use that, you could cut the end off and re-attach it on the other side to the outlet. I've almost used my box of 1000 feet. I wired every room in my house! One with two drops.

I am running at half speed but if I read correctly you bought a "snake" so that u can snake the wire through an existing hole and the head (RJ-45) will not fit? If this is the case you can rip off the RJ-45 and reattach it later. They are simple to do. You can google guides on how to put the heads on.
