darin3
Isle, sorry to hear about the AT surgert. I have mine just over 4 weeks ago stay positive the first 2 weeks are what suck the most. I actually used one of the orothopedic surgeons for the Giants to repair mine. (had it done at HSS in NYC) I was only in a cast for 1 week than on to the Cam Boot. I started PT after 15 days and I am weight bearing up ot what Ever I can handle. I am able to put all my weight on it as the boot really protects you. Their are allot of differnent rehabilitation methods with this injury, I would push your doctor to see what is the most aggressive for you to follow. I can not tell you how much better it is once you start PT.. While at PT I am walking with no Boot on(2 sneakers) and only 1 crutch. if you google Achilles surgery Rehab protocol you will get more information than you care to. stay positve it gets better... Did you have a full rupture or just a tear? The casting/rehab is MUCH different for a full rupture, which both me and isle had. And I have to say, I completely disagree with having you push your doctor for the most aggressive treatment. This injury has a VERY high reoccurance rate and you want to be as safe and thorough as possible.

Friend of mine had the same rupture and referred me to the surgeon I used. My friend ran a marathon less than a year later. Every person heals at their own rate you still need to know when you are pushing too much. The new rehab porotcols all call for early moderated weight bearing.. The PT I go to uses the same protocol.. Many different ways to treat an achiles Rupture and allot of debate on what method is best. If you real all the new studies they all show that Earlly weight bearing increase the rehabilitaion and healing. I guess i have been doing way to much research on this but this is a nasty injury

Trust me, I did a crapload of research on this too... I had nothing else to do.
