Working for fedgov? Don't want to pay your taxes?

I guess if you're in fedgov you really don't owe any taxes...

House Committee Chairman Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.) even sweetened Chaffetz’s language for Democrats today by giving workers wiggle room if they were in the midst of a payment plan with the IRS or if they were experiencing serious hardships.

But Towns pulled the entire bill from markup after Democrats shot down their own chairman’s compromise, a move Ranking Member Darrell Issa called “disappointing.”

“There was a bipartisan effort and compromise reached with Chairman Towns to create consequences for both Federal contractors and Federal employees who are seriously delinquent in paying their taxes to the IRS,” said Issa in a statement. “I am thoroughly disappointed that Democrats rejected the chairman’s compromise and stubbornly refused to work with him on an effort to hold Federal employees to the same standard as the private sector. There needs to be consequences for both contractors and federal employees who fail to pay their taxes.”

Absolute bullcrap. they SHOULD be fired, and there is no reason this didnt not go through. I do like the second part of your article you negelected to post though . .

Congress has attempted in the past to stop tax-cheating contractors from getting federal contracts, but the legislation has never made it to the president’s desk. That could change this year. President Obama has also been on the case of tax defaulters. He sent a letter to federal agencies earlier this year warning that the White House would be monitoring federal contractors who had defaulted on their taxes, and could prevent them from getting additional contracts.

A recent Government Accountability Office study estimated that government contractors owe the government nearly $5 billion in back taxes.

Yeah, the second part has been around for a while, and I'd thought we'd already discussed here.

The obamessiah has to get after all those tax cheats. He'd NEVER have one in his squeaky-clean... wait. What? You mean the guy actually IN CHARGE OF THE F'N TAXES IS A TAX CHEAT?

thats the problem. Obama has talked tough, he publically admitted screwing up when potential cabinet members were found to owe back taxes, but whyen it come to this it has been all talk . . . and not enough action. Stop the talk and start firing these fkers

Federal pay ahead of private industry

part of this is related to the business cycle, and often it really is difficult to compare (as people in the article point out). but there is something worth addressing there.

in any case, the LEAST that can be expected of a federal employee is to pay their damn taxes on time, without exception.

personally, I think any federal employee who cheats on their taxes should be fired on the spot, and any contractor who owes back taxes should lose their contracts. I think this should be a bright-line, no exceptions rule.

 As a Treasury employee I feel the same way, my taxes get gone over with a fine tooth comb every year and are paid on time without exception. I know of 1 person in my 20 years of being with Treasury that didn't pay their taxes and they were escorted out of the building and never seen or heard from again.

Are you sure? Sounds like most of them end up with Cabinet positions in the WH. :D

Careful. The Clinton conspiracy nuts will be asking if it was Vince Foster.

Its BS. Every time I get involved in a tax case - EVERY TIME - they IRS pulls my records to make sure I'm current on my tax reporting. (They do this to keep people like me honest). I'm disappointed that the government isn't holding every else to the same standard. Not surprised, mind you: just disappointed. The government is good at some things, like creating private sector standards the government couldn't possibly meet itself.
