CaP'N GRuNGe
I have a "privacy drive" flash drive that has a bunch of stuff on it that I can no longer get to. I plug it in and the drive shows up but no files show. I click on properties and it does show that there is data there. I tried to uninstall the drive and plug it back in. I've tried various USB ports. Only thing I haven't tried is a different machine as I only have the one here at home. Any ideas on how to fix this? I'd hate to lose these files. WashingtonD
Assuming by "Privacy Drive" you mean one that is encrypted and password protected? If so, when you place it in the USB drive, does it prompt you for the password? What is the brand/model of the drive? WD
westvirginia
TimC told you not to use the thing as a butt-plug...
CaP'N GRuNGe
http://www.acp-ep.com/usb_vaultdrive20.html It's the 1GB version of the above. I had files both in the "vault" and outside of it. To get to the vault I opened the .exe file and then I entered my password. None of the files are visually showing on the drive when i plug it in. CaP'N GRuNGe
I can also not save a file or create a new folder on the drive. If I try to format it, it will wipe out the data correct?

I don't know what you should do (other than google around) but DO NOT reformat it as you would lose your data for sure.
TimC
Some people have more than one flash drive and back them up in case a disaster like this happens. Since you can't afford or don't want to pay for more than one and didn't feel it necessary to back it up, then you should make these people give up one of their flash drives and stop backing it up. It should be at your discretion that they will now follow your own rules since it's not fair that they have taken care of themselves without considering your possible consequences. For God's sake, your Flash drive is dying and we should all lend a hand...whether we want to or not.

Skippy
several years ago I used software called Restorer2000. That software could be downloaded and ran first to see if it saw the files. It worked very good for me. The only issue that I had was that it changed the name of many files but I was able to recover everything. rocknrobn26
S/W is the only way to go, but trying another machine first is worth a shot.
