The Replacements

One of the most underrated American underground rock bands. Got to see them twice - The first time they blew me away, the second time they drank themselves silly-- booed off the opening stage and got into a fight with headliner Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

 

My favorite tracks include: Unsatisfied, Can't Hardly Wait, When It Began, Left of the Dial.

Not overly familiar with The Mats, which I guess I should be ashamed of - but when it comes to Twin Cities 2nd wave punk, I'm a Hüsker Dü man.

 

 

But "Can't Hardly Wait" is a terrific song.

There's a good book about the Minneapolis scene in the 80's here -- that is mostly about the Replacements -but a little about Husker Du and Soul Asylum too.

What's funny (to me, at least) is that I recall when my wife and I met "Closing Time" by Semisonic (former members of Trip Shakespeare) was our "unofficial theme song."

The possibilities are endless, and I could roll with just about anything off of "Tim", but since Left of the Dial, Little Mascara, and Here Comes a Regular are covered I'll toss out Waitress in the Sky.
