keggerz
Allow me to be the first (this year) to question the practice of putting fullbacks on the roster. About 1/3 of the teams don't have one or hardly ever use one. And a heavily used fullback sees what - about 15-16 snaps a game? Snaps played by fullbacks*: * Stats are for 16 games for the following teams: Car, Pitt, SF, Stl, Dal, Arz, Det, Mia, NE, Buff, Indy, Oak, Sea, TB, NYG, GB...all other teams are thru 15 games 1 Lousaka Polite MIA 513 2 Marcel Reece OAK 508 3 Le'Ron McClain BLT 484 4 Greg Jones JAX 445 5 Ovie Mughelli ATL 412 6 Jacob Hester SD 383 7 Vonta Leach HST 361 8 Bear Pascoe NYG 350 9 Lawrence Vickers CLV 349 10 Tony Richardson NYJ 348 11 Michael Sellers WAS 336 12 Chris Gronkowski DAL 304 13 Corey McIntyre BUF 298 14 Tony Fiammetta CAR 297 15 Owen Schmitt PHI 294 16 Moran Norris SF 286 17 Heath Evans NO 270 18 Earnest Graham TB 258 19 Ahmard Hall TEN 257 20 David Johnson PIT 212 21 Naufahu Tahi MIN 210 22 Mike Karney SL 197 23 Michael Robinson SEA 194 24 Tim Castille KC 193 25 Jerome Felton DET 187 26 Quinn Johnson GB 186 27 Reagan Mauia ARZ 174 27 Spencer Larsen DEN 174 29 Korey Hall GB 153 30 Mike Cox KC 151 31 John Kuhn GB 99 32 John Conner NYJ 92 33 Isaac Redman PIT 89 34 Madison Hedgecock NYG 88 35 Erik Lorig TB 86 36 Sammy Morris NE 63 37 Brit Miller SL 55 38 Jason Wright ARZ 40 39 Lex Hilliard MIA 39 40 Chris Pressley CIN 37 41 Quinton Ganther SEA 35 42 Reggie Kelly CIN 34 43 Scott Chandler DAL 33 44 Chris Pressley TB 32 45 Daniel Coats CIN 23 46 Deon Anderson DAL 17 47 Jerome Johnson ARZ 16 47 Desmond Clark CHI 16 49 Dan Skuta CIN 14 50 Patrick Cobbs MIA 13 50 Brock Bolen JAX 13 52 Jackie Battle KC 11 52 Rashawn Jackson CAR 11 54 Ryan Purvis TB 10 55 Daniel Coats DEN 8 56 Antone Smith ATL 6 57 Russ Hochstein DEN 5 58 Kregg Lumpkin TB 4 58 Montell Owens JAX 4 58 Javarris James IND 4 61 Rock Cartwright OAK 3 61 Curtis Brinkley SD 3 63 Doug Legursky PIT 2 63 Chris L. BeerLeagueQB
It's a crowded field. I LOVE Rodgers as my QB, but can you say he CLEARLY deserves a berth ahead of Brees, Ryan, and/or Vick? It's pretty arguable. I can say he clearly deserves to be there over Matt Ryan. His stats are better with 2 less games. He is a better QB, period. Furd
Snaps played by fullbacks*: Some of them play a bit more that I thought. If you figure an average of 65 offensive snaps per game (I read that somewhere, I think) you get 1,040 snaps per year. It looks like you might have 4, maybe 5 FBs in the entire league who will play in more than or just about half of the teams offensive plays. Only about 15 FBs in the league will play more than 1/3 of their teams offensive snaps. Also, only 6 of the teams represented in the top 20 (3 in the top 10) on that list are in the playoffs (maybe 2 or 3 more, but its unlikely). Lorenzo Neal, who many consider the greatest fullback in recent times, was cut by 8 different teams in his career. For the most part, a FB is just a part time blocker who starts the play in the backfield rather than at the line of scrimmage. Its the most overrated position in the game. CaptainHook
I can't remember the last time the Colts even had a true fullback on the roster. Then again, maybe that's why they struggle running the ball so much. . .
