Duchess Jack
So I get an email that a check I cut to my church was kicked back - I supposedly overdrew on one of my accounts, which as a bit scarey because I had a few grand in it. So I went to the bank today. Apparently some info from 16+ years ago popped up. This account is the same one my wife used before we were married - when she was in highschool. They have her current name, social, info and such - this just happened to bring up a red flag after like 16 years. So I am locked out of that account for likely a week until they work through this. I brought them socials, our marriage cert, drivers licenses, everything. I still have to wait a week. I kind of feel like they are stealing my money. We did not do ANYTHING wrong. They obviously have the correct info. This is on them. I am lucky the misses joined me today, because they might have had to take me out in cuffs if I had to sit there for the 1.5 hours alone. The money is not really a problem - its just the situation and the fact that I have to jump through hoops to get MY money because of THEIR mistakes. Ursa Majoris
I wish people would stop criticizing banks. Banks are social institutions that are only interested in looking out for the well being of all of us.

Duchess Jack
What kills me is what if I had lost my SS card and didn't have money in other places. My money would have been locked up for weeks until I got another card.
montster
DJ comes here to look for sympathy about the bank screwing him over, gets excited to see a bunch of replies to his thread and, instead of people agreeing with him, he gets sex jokes involving his wife. Bah, it'll give her something to smile about after having to deal with this nonsense.

Clubfoothead
It can be very frustrating but I try and give them the benefit of the doubt and that they are just being extra safe with my money. That's what I try and tell myself in these types of situations.

That's what I try and tell myself in these types of situations. If that makes you feel better, fine. But unless DJ has more than $250,000 in that account, it's not really a valid point (since even if his bank goes bankrupt from not being safe with people's deposits, the FDIC will still reimburse the depositors). If he wants, I think DJ is well-within his rights to go pitch a fit at the bank until they give him something for his inconvenience.

Otherwise, I guess I just don't understand their motivation to improperly detain DJ's money.
Ursa Majoris
I just don't understand their motivation to improperly detain DJ's money. The same motivation that removes money from your account the moment you make a payment but, mysteriously, that same money doesn't show up in the other account until days later. wiegie
at least she's still accepting deposits. perhaps--I'm betting she'll get bored halfway through and require DJ to undertake a quick (and obviously minor) withdrawal.
