HighKite
Have to disagree, they may not have traded much (I don't recall, apparently you do since you knew it was crap) but acquiring somebody by trade where you give something up (anything) shows the team has more interest than a FA pick-up that costs the team nothing (in picks, players, etc.) Not saying he will be a big factor, or even any factor at all. I read some analysis somewhere that I think makes sense. Ridley was to be the workhouse, and Vareen the complimentary back, 3rd down pass catching type duties. Blount isn't really suited to that roll, and neither is Brandon Bolden. Of the RB on NE roster, Leon Washington is the one that fits the Vareen roll. Depends on whether you think Ridley ends up in the dog house and they turn to somebody else to carry the load, or if you're just looking for who gets Vareens touches. You make a good point here about the Patriots not having anybody to take over that role. It is gonna have to be Washington as Blount and Bolden are Ridley types. I just don't see them running as much with Washington as they did Vereen though which bodes well for Ridley if he holds on to the ball. Demps wanted/wants to return to the track and only play after the track season ends. They had nothing to lose.

They had nothing to lose. They still gave up something for him. No matter how small. It shows that they wanted Blount to be in their plans. In two weeks you will see. kingsofromance
Its more likely that a Receiver will benefit from the receiving touches of Vereen's workload and Blount the rushing side of things. Not Washington. But its worth a chance I guess. Blount Week 2 Prediction: 10-12 Rushing attempts, 3 receiving targets. Still very conservative. Could be a lot more if Ridley fumbles early. (which I bet he will) Defenses are going to go strip the ball happy on him.

In two weeks you will see. It was a long shot to see if there was anything left in Blount and if there was then maybe he could contribute. They did not trade for him because they were sure he would be able to contribute. He was a long shot to even make the team before preseason. But never mind. If you think they traded for Blount with a master plan in mind so be it.

Not guaranteeing it by any means, but he has as good of a shot as any NE RB to produce this season.
stethant
I'm all in on Blount. Let me save you the disappointment - No. Do not do this. It's going to end poorly. Blount is not the 2nd coming of Dillion - he's pretty much done in the NFL as far as making a meaningful RB contribution. Ridley is way better at what he does and in no way can Blount fill the Vereen/Woodhead/KFaulk role.

I believe they hired personal assistants to pick him up in the morning otherwise he would often miss training or be very late. The first week after they cancelled the assistants he didn't show or was very late.

Currently tho Belichick has gone out of his way to talk about how Blount is a good locker room guy and has done a 180 since punching the guy in the face. They went into it in detail on Mike and Mike a few days ago. According to Mike and Mike Belichick LOVES the guy.
