DuckSurprise
Hi - I could use some advice as i'm thinking about trading draft picks (first time i've considered this approach) and i'm not sure if the offer I made is fair or if i'm actually potentially screwing myself! I am picking 10th overall and I don't like having to wait until 3.10 to get my first WR - I have a real hunch that Chad Johnson is going to have a great year and I know he won't fall to 3.10 but will be there at 3.1. Therefore i'm trying to trade for 3.1 with the guy who is picking first overall and he is open to it but has aksed me to make an offer. I was thinking something along the lines of : Round 3 - we swap picks, I pick at 3.1 (and hopefully snag either Holt or CJ), he picks at 3.10. Then to balance out the trade, we swap 7th and 9th round picks. He picks at 6.12 and 7.1 as he would have normally and then gets my 7.10 pick. To even this out as well, I get both of his 9th round picks so I pick at 9.1 and 9.10. I am thinking it may be a little goofy but looking to see if the guys on here, first of all think it is a fair offer and second of all, a sensible move on my part. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Fletch
You proposal seems relatively fair, although I might ask for a 6 not 7. My philosophy in trying to trade up, especially 10 spots as you mention is to swap picks and then offer a second pick 2-4 rounds later depending on the situation. In my opinion, no one is overly compensated in the situation you describe.
LegFuJohnson
So he gets to pick at 7.10, instead of 9.1. That moves him up what, 14 or 15 spots? That not nearly enough to compensate dropping 9 spots in the third round. I wouldn't do it if I were him.
geeteebee
You'd have to swap 4th rounders as well for him to even consider it. He would pick at 4.3 and you would drop to 4.12. That is a long time between your picks, but that is the sacrifice you'll have to make to get the player you covet.

BS Miscreant
Make the offer. It's not gonna hurt you. If he balks, then you go oh yeah, I guess we'd need to switch 4ths to even things out huh? Never give away as much as your willing to on the first offer. Of course, you can't offend the guy's intelligence with a ridiculous offer either. I'd make your offer and see what happens.
