Col. Mustard
Our League went to a Dynasty/Keeper format this year and it's great. We have a $100 cap that comes into effect only on auction day. i.e. You can make a trade during the season to put you over the cap, but you must be back within the cap when your keepers are declared. My Question is this: Right now there are teams that are eliminated from the playoffs that have to get within the cap. Potentially they could pick up a flyer rookie worth $1 and drop Shawn Alexander $36. We are OK with that but, a team still in the playoffs could now pick him up. Do any of you commissioners out there have any ideas? On one hand it's unfair to not let people mathmatically eliminated strengthen their team for next year, on the other why should one team in the playoffs get the benefit of a big value player. Has anybody run into this problem? What did you do to fix it?
Bronco Billy
Pretty simple solution, actually. Our dynasty league has a moratorium on player movement from the start of week 13 games through the end of the NFL Super Bowl. During that time all rosters are frozen and no external player movement of any kind is allowed. That ought to work for your league. And to be sure I understand the way your league works, you have a 1st come/first serve player value waiver system? Yikes!

Waivers are set in the reverse order of standings, and run after every dropped player. Thanks for the reply but, I don't know if that solution would work, we have a limited reserve roster and an injury would have to be replaced during the playoffs. We are considering a frozen roster but only by teams mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
Big Country
We are considering a frozen roster but only by teams mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. Completely unfair as you are a keeper/dynasty league. Your initial reply suggests that teams must only be complaint with the cap on auction day or when declaring keepers, so why would anyone at this point have to get themselves compliant with a non-existent cap? The Wolf
You can make a trade during the season to put you over the cap, but you must be back within the cap when your keepers are declared. Let me preface this by stating that I am not in any dynasty leagues. -- but would love to do so. Perhaps I am speaking when I should not, however it seems as if your real issue is not the dropping of the players but the point you make above. If you have a salary cap, teams should always be compliant within the framework of the cap. If they are, you won't have any issues with someone dropping a great player for an up and coming rookie because of cap issues. They would already have had to be cap-compliant. I was wondering the same thing... why would anybody be stupid enough to drop Alexander now, while he could still be picked up by someone else in the playoffs, when they could just as easily wait until after the Super Bowl to make the exact same transaction? Is it so that they can get a jump on the lesser expensive players?
