Grits and Shins Posted September 19, 2012 Share Posted September 19, 2012 Don't you just love the guy that gets somebody off the waiver wire then immediately tries to trade him away? In my local league I have had the misfortune to stumble off to a 0-2 and had the first priority in waivers this week (ran yesterday). I chose to pass on Donnie Avery because he is the 2nd WR on his team and could lose his job when Austin Collie is cleared to play. So with my top priority pick I took somebody OTHER than Avery. Today I get a trade offer ... he wants to give me Avery for one of my drafted players (TE) In this particular (PPR) league we start 1 RB / 3 WR / 1 TE / 1 Flex ... because of my situation at RB I've been running 1 RB / 4 WR / 1 TE. These are the WRs I have - Cruz, Vincent Jackson, Boldin, Hawkins, Wright, Hartline and Ogletree. Did he really think I have a need for WR? Waivers run then I mention to another owner "Good pickup of so-and-so, he was on my radar, thought about picking him up but needed somebody else/didn't think I'd get them/didn't want to drop somebody or pay the fee. Then they say "So you want to trade for him." But to offer you a WW player that you passed on in a trade, they're either clueless or think you are. In the trade comment box: "This is the year that Shannahan stops playing Shennanigans. You have CJ2K, an injured (and injury risk) Matthews, and Ridley. You need stability. Take Morris and thank me at the end of the season when he finishes the year as a top 5 RB and a 1st round pick in next years draft." My response, "If Matthews is injured and an injury risk, why do you want him? And you want me to throw in a WR2 - WR3?? Uh - enjoy Morris and good luck with him next year in the first round." I love it when an owner tries to talk up the guy he wants me to take and talks down the guy he is getting. If it's such a good deal for me and not for you then why are you offering it to me? stevegrab Posted September 20, 2012 Share Posted September 20, 2012 Trading with salesman types is the worst, they're always trying to talk some smooth CHIPS AHOY! to convince you that you're getting the better end, or that it is at least a win-win. People keep trying to get me trade Calvin Johnson (keeper league no contracts/limits) but never even offer a top 5-10 RB, or if they do it is one who is at best 1-2 years from breaking down (Lynch this year). I keep saying "He is available for the right price, but I doubt anybody is going to meet that price." To me it should be stud for stud, maybe not Foster/Rice, but somebdoy in that area. I'm in sales and I never try to talk up the trade, I just offer the trade or start the conversation about who I'm interested in from his team and see where it goes from there.
