Dolphins add Arian Foster to Ajayi & Drake

Dolphins signed RB Arian Foster, formerly of the Texans.

Foster appeared in four games for Houston last season, averaging just 2.6 yards per carry but still looking spry in the passing game with a 22-227-2 receiving line on 28 targets. Jay Ajayi remains the favorite to start in Week 1, but we don't believe the Dolphins would sign a player of Foster's ilk as a clear-cut backup, and we don't believe Foster would continue his playing career unless he believed he was going to play. With third-round pick Kenyan Drake also likely to have at least some involvement, the Dolphins' backfield is now amongst the muddiest in the league.

There is definitely going to be a competition for RB1.

Worst Case Scenario: RBBC

Ajax is easily going to drop 3 or 4 rounds.

Either way, I don't think either one will get a full RB1 load. Am now considering dropping Foster in my Dynasty League.

I had Foster last year because I got him in a late round. I had him from his breakout season and three years after in a keeper league. When he went down last year I dropped him even though we have 2 IR spots in our league. I just don't think he's going to be of much value. He has healed from his injuries and then not lasted long and ends up getting a new injury. In his prime he was beautiful to watch, definitely elite. Can't count the times I watched him find a hole and then glide through like butter. If he does manage to come back strong and make it through the season I will be very happy for him as a person and a player who has given the game a lot of excitement.

I like that they are planning to use him mostly as a pass-catching back. With just 4 carries and 4 catches a game, a running back can have fantasy value in ppr leagues. I also think if Foster does bounce back to his previous form that they won't hesitate to use him heavily. If he gets hurt, no one will really care. The Dolphins aren't worried about going deep in the playoffs and they aren't worried about Foster's future.

Reading between the lines...Dolphins not enamored with Ajayi.

+1. Problem with Foster is that Achilles' never seem to heal back to 100%. Someone will emerge in that backfield, maybe, but good luck guessing who it is.
