  1. Questions like this make me chuckle... Seems every generation looks back and says, "Well, in my day...." Its like asking if 20 degrees is as cold as -20, ya know what, it is still COLD...lol... Was warfare in the past more violent than today, no, a bullet still stops a human....add more armor and you will find a new weapon to take the opponent down... So here is my point, it is a violent today as it was back then... There are advances in safety and protection and there are advances in the type of physical human that is playing the game now... Does one think that the human specimens that are now playing the game were just created in the lab for the sport of it all? No. This type of athlete was always on the planet, he just was not in the NFL. The game calls for a different type of gladiator to play in the arena. The athletes are different, not better. The game is different. The game has changed. NOT the violence. It is still as physical then as it is today. For sure, we are more AWARE of the violence and in some cases appalled at the violence but at the end of the day, it is as violent today as it was when I first started watching in the early 70s... I played into High School so I cannot really comment on what it was like on NFL gridiron then or today...these are observations...with a touch of history...make better armor and I will make a better weapon...
  2. I like the idea of the Pro Bowl having some meaning, having some weight toward the Super Bowl and thus played a week before the game....also gives something to watch that weekend as before the move there was just a big gap in the NFL T.V. schedule.... But when marquee players are absent due to their playing in the Super Bowl the following week, it kinda takes some of the fun out of the game... The teams headed to the SB will normally send a hand full of players to the Pro Bowl, but it stinks a wee-bit when the "starters" are absent.... There must be some sort of incentive beyond finances to encourage a better game or a more meaningful game... Why not poll the players, owners, and fans as to what a better incentive would be....like more cap space (economic I know) an additional draft pick...play for a charity... Maybe fanciful suggestions...ideas nonetheless...
  3. This whole thing bothers me... Where is the integrity? I really want to like Coach Harbaugh, but this stuff stinks. Since when is a QB's psyche that fragile? I understand that it can be tough to have someone want your job, but heck, is not that most of us commoners? Why would JH spend his integrity currency on Smith? Why back peddle now? Was not most of the NFL world ablaze with, "We want Peyton" frenzy? If Smith is that mentally insecure, it is a matter of time before he has his Ryan Leaf moment... http://blog.49ers.co...ing-evaluation/ http://www.thehuddle..._news.php#28792

  5. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/th...-is-not-a-war/1 I am very angry. If you have had friends that serve(d) in the military, you should be angered too. The use of metaphor to describe the issues between union and ownership here is insenstive and totally inappropriate. Our Nation is at war. People are not coming home, and if they do, they are changed forever; physically, emotionally, spiritually, and socially. War is aweful. War is hell. There is nothing romantic about it. The NFL is full of war terms. But the I think the players get it who the real heroes are, thus, every camera can be pointed to a sideline person in a cammo NFL jacket, or military personnel on the sidelines...but who is this labor boss? Did you read his qoute to the NY Times.... The Nation has cities with a 10% unemployment rate. Some States are in a huge defecit. Our Nation is not heatlhy; physically or economically. NFL is a game. It is entertainment. We know they do not want to be role models, they have both told us and shown us by their behvavior. Yet we still idolize them. We give them our time rather than to our friends and family. We give them our money instead of to bills or other priorities. We party and gorge ourselves. And if they lose, we vent or worse, go into forms of depression. And I am supposed to be saddened by the amount of money an OWNER makes over the employee? Hello? On the one hand, this is not a new concept and two, the minimum amount of money a player makes is more than any military person, teacher, union electrician, police officer or fire fighter will make.... My friends and I grew up going to Brewer games! I mean a lot of games! But after the third strike (no pun intended), we stopped. Sure we go back twice a year or so, but it is to catch-up on lives and families...we all think the game is one big fat joke....not the Brewers, not their history, we laugh at MLB... This is not war. This is greed. This is selfish. This is a huge pile of crap! '' I pray that this union boss does not experience war....however, if he / they want one, this is one fan that will happily spend his time and money anywhere but NFL, ever (an absolute word) again... Go ahead you uneducated, juiced-up, neanderthals; go ahead and strike... Clearly you have watched one too many episodes of Rome or Spartacus, the gladiators were slaves and were never greater than Rome itself... Slaves. Property. They could be put down at anytime... Back to point, war....really....is that what this is... When will we, the fans, stand up to these modern day legends? When will those of us who have served, take back our language (war) and honor those who have fought ands served....all gave some and some gave all.... War? I know I should be elated with the Packers winning seeing as I live in Madison, but right now, I could totally care less....
  6. Was here before it went pay... Been here since the site when pay... Just am not one to post; great reading, information, and the boards are a place not for the weak-of-heart or thin-skinned....lol.... And is still one of the best kept secrets in my leagues (shhhh).... Maybe there should be an incentive for those of us who use the huddle but do not tell our league-mates...
  7. Downloaded app as soon as I read about it on the Huddle....very nice... Still, have no plan on telling my friends about the Huddle....or the app....
  8. Well thank goodness for Facebook...whew...now we know it for sure it was an Oklahoma rivalry....(note to self, update facebook and remove collge and which football team I like)..... The question begs, if you are a gazillionaire NFL franchise QB, what does one expect to have happen at 3am in a strip club....I hope the guy takes VY to the cleaners...for flashing an upside hook em horns...c'mon.... Maybe we should begin a thread / wager on who will be the next spot-light contestant on, "I am in the NFL and have too much money, and not enough common sense".....
  9. NOPE ! I have suggested that friends use PFW and for sure they ought to buy PFW in July...their rankings are pretty solid.... Of course, in a yahoo league, just follow what their experts suggest....oh, and Peter King gets it right from time to time...
  10. Okay....THAT is funny....except the stuff about the Vikings...and...the stuff about Favre...and the stuff about the Saints....but other than that, pretty much spot-on! Nice LED dispaly....wonder how far that set him back on the "honey-do" list....
  11. Yes, it was worth it. Enjoyed every minute of it. Felt ill after the INT...kept saying, "just tuck it and run"...with 1:30 on the board it was within reach...such a let down...but would do it again... IF Brett retires, his last pass as a Packer and as a Viking will both be indicitative of who is / was as a player...high risk - high reward, making unorthodox throws and completing impossible plays; it is simply who he is and for him to go out any other way would not be Favre-like... Similar to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, in a blaze of glory, going out on his terms... No doubt, a Super Bowl would have fantastic! Finally, if the media hounds would leave him alone, I bet that Favre would give an answer sooner than August...no one, not just Brett, no one likes to be examined with a microphone / camera in the face every day...leave the guy alone and let him be...if he comes back, great, if not, move along.... (I sound like T.O., "that's my quarterback"....LOL....) With regards to McNabb.... Following the Super Bowl, I need / am taking a football fast...LOL...
  12. + 1 If you can have as many players at a position, stack 'em.... Some pan out, some do not... At the end of the day, friendship is a lot more important than winning fantasy football. I would find a way to make peace and if an apology is needed, be the better man and say your sorry...that you did what you felt was right within the rules of the game... He sounds hurt...so address that and not whether or not you should have won....
  13. Picked up Jennings this week thinking I was a genius.....totally getting killed..... And thought I was sly too with the quiet pick up of the Houston's Foster....again, totally getting killed.... Wells is also killing me as I have Hightower.... What a day, what a day....LOL...
