BillyBalata
If you're a rich famous athlete and got some money...we're going to have to charge ya. But on the other hand, if you're a poor guy working on a boat... The Star Tribune reports the attorney for Minnesota Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper said Thursday that a crew member on a players' boat cruise admitted he had engaged in sexual activity with a woman, and the attorney questioned why that boat company employee wasn't charged while four Vikings on the cruise were. Attorney Earl Gray said he learned about the employee's activities on the Lake Minnetonka boat when he read the case documents from Hennepin County Sheriff's Office investigators. "Mr. Culpepper is charged with an offense that can't be proved and he will be found not guilty," Gray said. "The only reason he was charged is because of his name." The employee is a male relative of the owners of Al & Alma's Supper Club and Charter Cruises, which supplied two boats Oct. 6 for the annual party thrown by first-year players for their team, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the case. None of the sources identified the employee by name, and the charging documents in the case do not name any of the crew members. The employee touched the woman sexually during a lap dance, sources said. Investigators received a tip about the employee from a downtown Minneapolis bar owner, the sources said. The employee was then confronted by investigators, and he admitted what he had done with the woman, the sources said.
Randall
He touched her sexually? How did he touch her? That may enter in the decision but they don't say.

kraftykraft
Is it a double standard? In the sense that its far easier for a lone "nobody" to finger some lapdancer than a bunch of big, athletic guys who probably are all pretty obviously grouped together, then yes. Think of it this way, which is going to be easier for the officials to see and call in a game--one guy headslapping the opposing lineman, or the whole offensive and defensive lines mixing it up? So yes, in a sense it's a double standard. But I still have to give Daunte Culpepper and his lawyer a award for this one. Here's a clue wealthy athletes, if you don't want to get busted, don't even put yourself in a position where you might be interpreted as doing the "lewd & lascivious" thing in public!! If you are on a boat with a bunch of Minnesota's citizenry, don't go tailgate apeshucks with a pile of witnesses around. You should know by now that there are a ton of publications and websites (like the Huddle) where your dirty laundry is going to get a public airing. If your teamates start doing this stuff in public, tell them that perhaps getting your schwerve on in public might not be the smartest thing legally or from a PR standpoint. If they don't stop, leave the room and go up to the bow of the boat and do that Leonardo DiCaprio thing from "Titanic". Then go throw a private party at your pad, away from the prying eyes of half of Minnesota. This isn't rocket science here. Everyone knows that A) athletes can get away with more stuff on most occasions, but when you are busted it will be all over the National Enquirer. I am all for lapdances and gorgeous ladies, but sometimes you have to do your thinking with the big head instead of the little one.
