heydave76
They just reported on the local news in Indianapolis that Corey Simon was out for the season for a non football related illness. They did not say what it was and that it was not related to his knee surgery. heydave76
Looks like the Colts aren't going to be able to shore up that run defense with Corey Simon like I had hoped. If you have a RB against the Colts, I'd start him.
FishFreak
Wow that's a tough loss for the Colts. His absence is one of the biggest reasons why the Colts can't stop the run. That will catch up with them come playoff time.

rellen13
I'm not a Colts fan, but the "non-football related illness" sounds ominous, and I hope whatever it is he recovers his health and comes back to play next year. Just not vs. the Pats .

CaptainHook
According to reports, he has been at the Mayo Clinic for whatever ails him.

The fact that he went to the Mayo Clinic suggests that it is pretty serious. However, the fact that it is not life-threatening is good news. phootballphreak
According to reports, he has been at the Mayo Clinic for whatever ails him. According to Adam Schefter on NFL network, the Colts have placed him on the NON-Related football injury list to possibly try and recoup some money due to Simon this year. Apparently Simon has not been able to practice since his August knee injury and his weight has gotten close to 370#. To me it sounds like he's been going to the Mayonaise clinic. ebartender
Exactly, why do you think the Eagles just released him? Yeah he started having a serious weight problem and was showing up to camp out of shape. When I watched him on the Colts he looked hugh. It's a shame because the guy was a hell of a player. CaptainHook
In pre-season he had lost a bunch of weight, and was in great shape. Then the knee injury happened. Yes, he is on the non-football injury list, so he probably won't be paid.

Yes, he is on the non-football injury list, so he probably won't be paid. Surely the non-football related injury list covers idiots like Winslow on his motorcycle, not someone who may have contracted a disease? On the face of it, more evidence that the NFLPA is a joke, though I suppose more info might lead to a different conclusion. He's certainly being treated worse than most regular working Joe's would be.
CaptainHook
Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Corey Simon has been diagnosed as likely having polyarthritis, a condition that has now shelved him for the 2006 season and will enable the team to not pay his $2.5 million base salary, sources have told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Simon was placed on the non-football injury-illness list on Thursday by the Colts, who cited federal privacy laws for not disclosing the specific nature of the illness. Simon and the team were informed that he likely has polyarthritis after undergoing tests by specialists from the Mayo Clinic who cannot attribute the condition to a football-related injury, such as the arthroscopic knee surgery he had in August, the sources contend. An NFL Players Association official told Mortensen the union is "assuming" that the team will not pay Simon's salary this season and will file a grievance on the player's behalf if the team chooses that course of action. "There's no other reason to put [simon] on the non-football illness list if your intent was to pay him," said a union source. Polyarthritis causes inflammation and affects multiple joints. It is treated by prescription medicine to relieve the inflammation. The complexities and uncertainty of the disease prompted the Colts' decision, sources said. Simon already has collected $13 million in bonus money from the five-year, $30 million contract he signed with the Colts last year as a free agent. The former first-round draft pick was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the 2005 season. Simon's inactivity during the offseason raised concerns within the organization. A source close to Simon said the player appealed to team president Bill Polian to delay the move Thursday for at least another week. The source said Polian explained to Simon that the team had stretched itself thin with other injuries and need space on the 53-man roster. The Colts believe that the uncertainty of Simon's current condition combined with his inactivity for the past eight months would not allow him to play football this season, sources said. The team also consulted its own lawyers for advice on its action. link Edited October 6, 2006 by CaptainHook
rellen13
And people complain about how the Patriots ' front office treats their players. But if the Colts had Tedy Bruschi on their team, he'd a healed him.
CaptainHook
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said he will not pay Corey Simon the $1.9 million balance of his 2006 base salary and could shed no more light on the "mystery" illness that will force the veteran defensive tackle to miss the remainder of the season. Simon was placed on the NFL's non-football illness/injury list Thursday, which does not require the team to pay him. He has received four game checks worth a total of about $600,000 of the $2.5 million he would have earned this season, Irsay said. In all, Simon has received more than $14 million in bonuses and base salary from the five-year, $30 million contract he signed when he joined the Colts before last season. He played in 13 games, none this season. "I've paid him an enormous amount of money," Irsay said, adding that the $5.5 million Simon counts against the salary cap this season won't be affected. Simon's agent said it was too soon to say whether the NFL Players Association will file a grievance with the league. "We're still trying to find out why he's on a non-football-related injury (list)," Roosevelt Barnes said. "I haven't even talked to Mr. Irsay or Mr. (Bill) Polian (the Colts president), so I don't know where they're coming from. This all came as a surprise to Corey and me." Simon, 29, did not practice after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in mid-August. Irsay reiterated that the illness is unrelated to the injury or the surgery, and that it is not life-threatening. Irsay said Simon consulted specialists in Indiana and the Mayo Clinic. "I can only say there was nothing conclusive or decisive that was discovered. Corey said he couldn't return, couldn't go, couldn't participate. It remains a little bit of a medical mystery." link
