CaptainHook
He doesn't want to do it, but diehard Chicago Bears fan Scott Wiese is changing his name. The 26-year-old Forsyth man told friends that if his beloved team didn't win the Super Bowl, he'd become Peyton Manning after the Indianapolis Colts star quarterback. He even signed a petition in front of 200 people last week at Decatur's Katz Piano Bar that he'd do it. After the Colts defeated the Bears 29-17 on Sunday, Wiese started the process. He trudged to the Macon County Courts Facility on Tuesday and filed the paperwork. The change still has to be approved by a judge. Wiese says he really cares about the team and that his sacrifice represents the true passion of Bears fans. link

Bill Swerski
This doesn't surprise me at all. I lived in Decatur for about 5 years when I was young and, even at a young age, I could tell that I was surrounded by a lot of very unsophisticated people. Randall
Wiese's parents, Steve and Debbie, are not thrilled with the idea. They hope the judge denies their son's request. Edited February 8, 2007 by Randall
cdrudge
All in all much better than if he changes his name to rexI wonder which would be the bigger punishment for losing the bet for a Chicago fan, having to change your name to Peyton Manning, or having to change it to Rex Grossman. I'd say the latter.

I'd say the latter. I would say beign in Chicago, not a football name, but Steve Bartman would have been a bigger punishment.
