i_am_the_swammi
Just one man's opinion, but Celek has a ways to go - quite a ways - before he's ready to play at the NFL level. I agree, but its interesting that he will ge the starting nod (not Schobel) this weekend. People in the know like his hands, and more importantly, he has shown to be a solid blocker thus far in camp. While I doubt he has a huge impact in the passing game initially (especially since learning the WC offense is no picnic), I could easily see him being the target on some seam routes/dump offs where the Eagles let his size & speed work to his advantage. Remember, LJ Smith's best year was just 700 yards (about 45 yards per game)...we're not talking about replacing Gates in this system of spreading the ball around. yo mama
His drops most likely were the direct cause at his only being targeted 7 times in the red zone. Doubtful, as Reggie Brown saw more passes in the red zone that any other Eagle pass-target (L.J. Smith was the next highest with 6, and Thomas Tapeh had 3). MikesVikes
I see that he "crumpled" to the ground. Sounds like a Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding moment. In figure skating, they call this "harding" to the ground. Edited August 10, 2007 by MikesVikes
Belushi
Per Rotowold, it's just a bruise and not an aggrevation of his previous injury. People are just over-reacting as usual. He's still a top 10 TE with upside while McNabb is healthy. An exam revealed the injury L.J. Smith suffered Thursday was not a re-aggravation of his hernia. Smith has a big bruise, but it's not related to the hernia so it isn't a setback in his recovery from surgery. However, Eagles head coach Andy Reid still couldn't provide a timetable for Smith to get back on the practice field.
