DMD
My Child's Pack On one hand this is probably completely unneccessary in 99.999% of the country. On the other hand, do you want your kid to be that infinitesimally small statistic? More than anything, what a genius money making idea. The Holy Roller
My Child's Pack On one hand this is probably completely unneccessary in 99.999% of the country. On the other hand, do you want your kid to be that infinitesimally small statistic? More than anything, what a genius money making idea. Friday our small rural district started teacher meetings with an all-day presentation from an outfit from Texas called Response Options, Inc. The gist of their presentation was that in the case of a shooter being in the school we need another choice besides "lock-down". Lock-down for us (teachers) meant you lock your classroom door, turn off the lights, and have your kids go sit in a corner where the shooter cannot see them thru a door or window. We were to stay there until the all-clear was given. According to Response Options, (the speaker's background: former SWAT officer for a city near Fort Worth/Dallas; training officer for FW/D police officers), school shooters are there for one reason and that is to inflict as many deaths as he can before killing himself. Schools that make their students/staff stationary targets are giving the wrong type of training. We need to throw the shooter off by doing things he is not expecting, like throwing stuff at him and attacking him if there is no way of escaping. A very different way of thinking vs what schools have done in the past. They are BOOKED solid, and have been since VA Tech. I don't agree with everything they say but it was a vastly different way to approach the subject. So bullet-proof bookbags may be part of a solution. Train kids to form a "turtle" like the Greeks/Romans?
