The book is way better as a horror story. The horror is in the complete and total emptiness of the lives of the wealthy characters in it, not the violence. It has quite a cult following. The movie and the book are two different beasts all together. It's a fun movie to watch from a dry hughmor POV. I was only bussing tables back in the 80s, but I remember all the stupid one-upsmanship with menu creation. As if guys were throwing darts at a wall with a bunch of ingredients listed on them and just going with whatever came up. Bale does a really, really great job with that role.
