DMD
From Rocky Mountain News * Free-agent signee Keary Colbert is projected to be a starter in the offense, alongside Marshall. Shanahan compared Colbert to Ed McCaffrey in that McCaffrey's career didn't fully take off until he joined the Broncos. Right now Cutler has Keary Colbert and an injured Brandon Marshall who hopes to be recovered by training camp from his TV-smashing episode. Should be interesting if not optimistic. I personally see little similarity between the 6'5" McCaffrey and the 6'0" Colbert who has only worsened from his rookie season in 2004.. Bronco Billy
If Shanahan starts Colbert in front of Stokley in 2-wide sets, he ought to be permanently committed. Stokley may be smallish, but the guy catches the freakin' ball and Cutler trusts him completely.

I agree.....unless Colbert comes out and starts making plays immediately... personally, I'd put Stokley out wide over Colbert in 2 WR sets and in 3 WR sets, Stokley would go in the slot... but Colbert really needs to pull his head out from under his a s s.... Randall
Another vote for Stokely. Broncos QB Jay Cutler is unhappy with injured WR Brandon Marshall. "Yeah, he's not my favorite person right now. I mean, I support him, but it's always something with him right now. You can't have that," Cutler said. He is apparently frustrated because the team has a new quarterbacks and receivers coach in Jeremy Bates, and Cutler wanted to work on new formations and plays during the offseason. Yeah, not sure what 61 catches for 670 yards and two TDs over the last three seasons did to inspire Shanhan, but Colbert appears to be getting an unusually lucky second chance. But there's not much so far to say that he warrants it. And in CAR, he had Steve Smith taking all the attention of the secondary anyway. I personally love Stokley in the slot where I think he is most effective. But Colbert as a starter just surprises me.

BumpNRun
Not sure if I understand this one.....But then again we are talking about Shanny.......Though I feel that Marshall is a budding star, it was a dumb move by him and it was good that Cutler spoke up about it. Hopefully it will not ruin the chemistry they have.. Colbert is not a strong signing for them. It must be the Air up there.

I don't think it's a terrible signing, but if you're counting on him to be your #2 WR? that's a little depressing.
Sturphy
I don't think it's a terrible signing, but if you're counting on him to be your #2 WR? that's a little depressing. This is how I see it too.
Bronco Billy
I don't think it's a terrible signing, but if you're counting on him to be your #2 WR? that's a little depressing. Agreed. Colbert is a step up in regard to WR depth from a guy like Glenn Martinez, who before the signing was sitting at the #3 WR slot. But to expect Colbert to take over as the 2nd best WR on the team (Shanahan is being quoted in the RMN this morning comparing Colbert to McCaffrey)? Well, let's hope this is the needle in Shanahan's FA haystack, but from what I've seen of Colbert I must be missing something...
kingfish247
I'd say Colbert as the WR2 increases the value of Scheffler.
Randall
I'd say Colbert as the WR2 increases the value of Scheffler. Yeah no kidding. Scheffler makes a very good pass receiver especially in the red zone.
Azazello1313
I'd say Colbert as the WR2 increases the value of Scheffler. that is a decent point. they may be looking at colber to start, but if they're in a 2 TE set, scheffler is probably the de facto second option, and if they're in a 3 WR set, stokely is the de facto second option from the slot. even if colbert starts 16 games, I wouldn't be at all suprised to see both scheffler and stokley end up with better numbers. NAUgrad
The only reason why Shanny doesn't want to start Stokley is because he knows how valuable he is to Denver. Stokley seems to have been injured over the past couple of years and putting him in the slot thus limiting his playing time some will help his longevity and hopefully stay healthy all year. Now why he would be listed as the #2 and not just be thrown into the mix to fight it out during camp is beyond me. And the reference to easy Ed..........please! TheShiznit
Maybe in Marshall's absence, Shanny can put David Terrell on the depth chart as #
