So basically this is telling us that Suzuki's and or business for Suzuki is terrible and Lexus, Porsche and Toyota are great. Yes?

Those numbers seem reasonably accurate. That's how much MSRP is over dealer cost. This just gives you a ball park estimate as to how much negotiating room you will have on any given car.

I couldn't get to the link, but wonder when those numbers were issued. I bought a used truck a few months ago and it was listed for $14,000. I offered $11,000 and they took it. I'm thinking a nice 20% off was a good deal. I had watched the truck for about a month and they couldn't sell it. I went in at month-end and was will willing to walk out without a second thought. It was a full-size Chevy truck with 30,000 miles and the remainder of warranty without a ton of options (just wanted something to simply haul stuff around). I think people wanted their $50k trucks still, so I guess it's the market you're looking for. We felt $11k was a good deal and was happy with it. Go low and I think they are desparate to move 'em right now. I know they didn't lose money off of me, but they sure didn't make much either.

Or just get Da Vette and be happy for the foreseeable future.

Why do you want a new car? I would look at used ones as well and compare.

I know dealers get a certain amount of "hold back" as well on every new car they sell. My buddy worked at a dealership for awhile and told me about some of the games they play ($500 over invoice doesn't really mean they are only getting $500). I kind of loathe care dealers (certain ones) for the games they play. E.g. My boss was buying a new company car and there was an ad with the exact car he was looking for (something like a Fusion SE). This ad had the price well below what other people were (maybe the normal going rate was 16-17K and this was listed around 14K). Well, when he called in the dealer started saying that this vehicle didn't have a lot of options and he should come in to discuss. My boss called BS and said the SE had all the options he was looking for. The salesguy eventually said that although they have several of these cars in stock, there was only one sold at the price listed in the ad. We don't really believe they even sold one at that price. They just wanted to drum up some people and hope they can separate them from their cash when they get into the door. Sorry for the side story, the point is that many dealers are scum so don't feel bad about kicking their teeth in or shopping their price. They will take advantage of any scrub that hasn't done their homework without thinking twice. GL

Yes they may be desperate, but you can't compare markup on a new vehicle to the markup on a used one.

Ah, I see now. I thought it was a percentage of how business was doing. And I thought, wow how could everyone be doing well. But that makes much more sense now. thanks.
