I will be stopping in Hattiesburg overnight in about a week on my way to Destin. Can anyone tell me if there are any good restaurant or anything fun to do. I will be travelling with my wife and five and a half year old daughter, FWIW.

What route are you taking to get to the Coast? Depending on that you might want to look into taking the Natchez Trace. Nice scenery, plenty of history & lots of things to see along the way. If you have to go through Hattiesburg there really isn't much to do there. I'll check with a few folks & see what the best places to eat are. While you're there you can ask Brett if he's signed with the Viqueens yet. One place I will recommend though if you are to go down I-10 to Destin is The Shed BBQ in Ocean Springs, Ms where I live. It's right off the interstate, very easy to find and as any of the MSHB work crew will tell you, is quite the experience.

Im guessing/hoping Hattiesburg has a little something more intrinsic to the area than a generic Chuck-E-Cheese.

I wouldn't bet on it. :D

Most people from Hattiesburg come to the Coast for something to do. It's only about an hours drive from there if that.

Thanks for the info. I saw that place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so we were thinking about changing our route a little bit.

Keep in mind though, while technically in Ocean Springs, it's not in a populated area. If you wanna see the Gulf Coast for what it is then take a stroll a little further South down HWY 90. It's only about a 5 minute drive past I-10. Be sure to skip anything East of Ocean Springs though. Everything from Bay St. Louis to Ocean Springs is very nice, other than that you might as well be back in Hattiesburg. Biloxi & Gulfport still have plenty of Katrina scars as well if you're into that. Anywhere you see empty space you can bet houses & businesses once stood there. But they're both coming back very nicely. Biloxi has all the casinos if you want to gamble a little. Ocean Springs Downtown is a very artsy shopping district. Small enough to walk around, plenty of great places to eat & plenty of local flavor & there is almost always something going on there on the weekends. There's also a nice childrens park very close by and easy access to the beach/harbor from there. Let me know if you're interested, what your tastes are & when you'll be passing through & I'll send you in the right direction & clue you in on some of the happenings. Drive time from Ocean Springs to Destin is about 2 1/2 hours if you need a time reference.

Don't swear when you are in line to get your food here. I hear you will get a warning once and then be tossed out on your ass.
